A costly fifth inning handed third-ranked Cal its first loss in softball since winning the College World Series last year.

No. 4 Nebraska scored five runs in the fifth to pick up the 6-1 win in Henderson, Nev. Cal drops to 9-1, while Nebraska improves to 8-0.

The loss snapped the Bears' 20-game win streak. It was their first defeat since Arizona State won 2-1 on May 5, 2002.

Nebraska batted around the lineup and collected six hits in the fifth.

The Bears responded in the bottom half of the inning with their only run. Courtney Scott led off with a double. Then Kaleo Eldredge singled to score pinch runner Jessica Vernaglia.

Santa Clara 1, Pacific 0: In the first game of a doubleheader, Santa Clara scored in the top of the seventh on a home run by first baseman Tracie Hall. It was the only hit given up by pitcher Jennifer Dacre.

Pacific 5, Santa Clara 1: Cathie Hacker pitched a complete-game two-hitter as Pacific collected four runs in the first three innings. Leftfielder Barbara Moody went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Pacific (4-3). Santa Clara fell to 6-7.
