To AC / lakerfan / anyone in LA show biz...

This is a bit off-topic, I know, but am taking my girlfriend to LA next month for a vacation and was wondering if there is any way to find out about movies being filmed that we could watch? Are these sets always closed or is there ocassions when they let people watch? Last time I was there, Austin Powers 2 was being filmed at UNiversal Studios, but all we could see was from a distance (from the tram on the "backlot tour"). I got some tickets for a taping of That 70s Show, and am awaiting Jay Leno tickets in the mail, but was wondering if there was an inside scoop on seeing something better than what all the other tourists do.

And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, I apologize, for soem reason I had gathered you guys might know...

I am not in LA, and I don't usually start to follow films until after production, so I am not one to ask. But on most movies, the film shoot is closed unless you somehow wander into a area where shooting is taking place. I think you might have better luck in Vancouver with all the filming up there LOL. I would personally make a lot of time for the beach. Love the ocean. If you don't get any answers here, consider posting in the main forum or asking winkyduck; I know he could tell you all the hip places on the club scene.

trust me, once you sit thru the 6 hours of boring hell that the 70's show will be, you won't want to visit a movie set.

if you drive around Los Angeles (stay away from Bev Hills and Santa Monica, its tough to film there so there aren't many productions) if you see a bunch of trucks lined up on the street, you probably found a set. you won't be able to get too close, and you will get shooed away.

it seems like it would be fun to watch, but it really isn't. many, many better things to do in LA. go to dinner at the Mandarette on Beverly, you will probably see a star or two there, good chinese food, decently priced. if you really want to spend some bucks, get dressed up and go to the Polo Lounge for lunch and you can see old time hollywood folks.

they are reallyu hurting for tv audiences these days, so you will be able to see as many tv shows, esp. talk shows as you want. hollywood blvd is where they usually recruit for those shows.

Thanks for the responses...I must be a glutton for punishment. Last time I was there, I sat for 2 hours and watched them trying to film a GTE commercial. Found it pretty interesting...we'll see how the 70's show goes...

Try visiting the various Television Studio's. (e.g. FOX. NBC, ABC, CBS, etc) If your interested....most sitcoms and talkshows require studio audiences. There always open to the public. So you can check out a filming of "Friends", "King of Queens", "Frasier", "Jay Leno", etc) I don't think they charge. You just get in line out front the studio.

Check the stations site's and they usually have the schedule episodes and time of filming.
