This is a question for Democrats. Who is the best Democratic candiate and why?

Just interested to see who Democrats want to see in the White House.

Thanks,
KMAN

I'm not a Dem, but I plan on voting Democrat until Bush leaves. Hopefully that's close enough for your logistics.

Personally, I'd like to see Dick Gephardt get the nomination because I think he is one of the few honest men in Washington. He would fight for national healthcare, better foreign policy and labor unions. All three are things that America desperately needs.

Yes Lander that's exactly what America needs is more labor unions

Should make us more competitive right? Every heavily unionized industry has been driven in the dumper...can you say railroads, steel, autos, trucking...and let's not forget the airlines. And let's nationalize healthcare...no better place to manage something than the government.

Perhaps you prefer NAFTA and exporting jobs, but I'd prefer to keep them right here in America.

Then again you guys don't seem particularly concerned with anything beyond special interest kick backs, so I'm not particularly surprised.

DEAN!
Reason: I put a substantial amount of money on him.

Regardless of who is the democratic candidate he will end up losing to Bush (unfortunately).

WESLEY CLARK

First and foremost because he can and would beat Bush and help other Dems win with him at the top of the ticket.

Also because he would provide the expert leadership that is needed in the current climate and understands how to build alliances and coalitons which are necessary to win the war on teerror. He would help to restore thw world's respect in America.

On domestic issues, he is compassionate and inteeligent. He put forth a great comprehensive tax reform proposal today that would eliminate even filing a form for a family of 4 making under 50K in part by adding a 5%surcharge on income over 1 million.

Bottom line: Clark is Karl Rove's worst nightmare.

A2345exxx - Why do you think every Democratic candiate will lose to Bush?

I would support anyone aside from Kucinich or Sharpton against Bush, but I think D2 is right, in part, except I believe that Gephardt too could be Bush. Aside from Gephardt and Clark I don't see the Dems putting up much of a fight.

It's game, set and match to Bush....the Dems best bet is to start working on the 2008 Hillary campaign against brother Jeb or Frist.

KMAN, the reason is that no democratic candidate has nearly the amount of campaign funds Bush has but thats of minimal importance.
What is of more importance is how the citizens of the US, in general, have moved to the right in the political spectrum (which would be natural after 8 years of Democratic rule) but it was intensified by this war on terror....Bush has got the general population so scared he could basically do anything in the name of national security such as eroding your civil liberties.

Best candidate is easily Lieberman, but he has no chance to get there because too many Dems just see him as Bush-lite. Still the bottom line is the best way to beat someone isn't to pull a 180 on him unless things are going really bad. The Dems can rail on about the DNC and the Clintons all they want, but the bottom line is that they figured out the best way to do it is to copy the other side, but just tweak the issues a little bit more. You don't fight to get your core out there, you fight to get the middle on your side. Dean I think is slowly making that move and for that reason I give him a far better chance than most to win, but he is still a clear underdog. Lieberman is already there, he is close to as centrist Dem as you are going to find. Once again though, that is the faulty system of party politics that makes it tough to win an election without a bad situation hitting the sitting President. The party will nominate the person they like best, they rarely will nominate a guy they think has the best shot to win.

Lander,

How will a union stop the export of jobs overseas? If anything, it would hasten the departure. Not that it's indicative of everywhere else, but the company for which I work had a union "scare". There was a group of people trying to organize it in secret. They failed and someone finked them out. As a result, they were terminated as examples. Officially, it was conduct unbecoming but we all knew the real reason. The extent of their anti-union sentiment is great. I wouldn't put it past them to close up and go somewhere else.

A2345exxxx,

You talk about our civil liberties being eroded.
However, I can go out tomorrow and legally get a .50 calibre handgun to add to my collection within 2 hours. Can you? I'm not trying to bust your balls too bad but if you're in England
what in the Hell are you doing studying American
Civics? Maybe you're better than I am because I
don't have the slightest idea how many rights you guys have over there. I know to get a handgun (no larger than .38 not including .357 magnum) you have to get permission from the cops, prove that you need it and get a witness of the community with great standing. If I'm wrong, let me know.

UM,
I believe unions create a strong sense of Patriotism, ie "buy American" ...

.. as the unions, so does the loyalty to American business thus making the jobs more likely to be relocated for cheaper labor/materials.

Mind you, this is purely my own unsubstantiated theory.

Scandals of Bosnia? Yeah, how dare he save 1.5 million Kosovar Albanians from ethnic cleansing w/o the loss of a single American life for about 1/100th the cost of the Iraq war. Kosovo was a brilliant success, hardly a scandal. Clark's efforts were worthy of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and universal praise at the time. It's only now that politics have brought out some smears. I would only love to see Bush dare to attack Clark about his actions in Kosovo or Bosnia -- believe me, that would not be among his talking points.
