I have played there. 2-4 hold em and 4-8 hold em.
I did not ask about higher limits. I suspect they can accomodate any bankroll. Phil Ivey and Johnny Chan were occupying a table in the corner. I doubt they were playing 4-8.

I have every intention of winning the RX poker tourney. the rest of you are DEAD money.

Sorry Dante, not much of a poker player. Walked through there looking for a friend a few weeks ago, and just thought it was very clean and nice. As far as logistics, I can't help you.

Nice clean room, view of the pool. It's actually in a kind of tent. But it's spacious, has a wide spread of games (can't remember exact number either 24 or 32, i think). Located very near valet parking, just a hallway up from the sportsbook. Tournaments running every day.
It's definitely the class of downtown and in the top 3 in Vegas (Bellagio, Mirage) I'd say.

BTW, went in Harrah's and they have gutted the race book side and are in the process of converting that into their new poker room (looked to be 8-10 tables from the cutouts).

Also, received notification that Bally's will be putting in a poker room. LV Hilton have confirmed adding a room. Rio will ultimately put one in (hosts of next year's WSOP prelims). Palms and Mirage are/have expanded. MGM is rumored to be adding a room, and Caesars is contemplating as well. IP just put in a small low-limit room upstairs.

The poker boom is exploding in Vegas and the WPT will be holding an event at end of July, beginning of August at the Mirage.

Is a nice room that is next to the pool. Looks like they converted a sun room and put a canopy to keep out too much direct sun light. They hads lot of 2-4 and 4-8 games when I was there during the series. They also had an active mid limit section 15-30 all the way to 200-400. The "big game" was also in the corner. That day they were playing a mixed game with 3k-6k limits.

The dealers were THE WORST I have ever dealt with. Most didn't speak english and most hands had to be called by the players. Even if they still don't speak much English, they have to be better than they were. Still, it ruined most of the experience for me.

I played in a Tournament last night at Lake Charles, LA. I thought it was unusual that all of their tourneys are NON SMOKING tournaments!

But I prefer that since i dont smoke! I guess that they want their gamblers to live longer!

A few months after complaining that the poker boom wasn't creating more poker rooms I am glad to be proven wrong. Poker rooms, even at these mostly low limit offerings, are great for all the forms of gambling most of us on the Rx are interested in. Poker at 3-6 keeps a lot of money in the pockets of the bettors that might otherwise have blown it on slots. Even a bad player at a poker table does less damage to his bankroll than he does sitting in front of most slot machines. If the guy has more money in his pocket, more likely he feeds the poker economy, the sports book/race book economy, and the other table games. Reason being many people are very afraid of the social interaction of a casino and by default just go to the slots/VP because it doesn't threaten them much. Having poker gives a player a chance to realize that even though there is some competition going on, at the 3-6 game it is mostly friendly and to many players worth the small price of paying a rake. I am a strong believer that once players enjoy any form of table play, no matter what it is, they are far less likely to find satisfaction in mindlessly spending hours in front of machines.

Good observation WildBill, your bankroll does last longer playing Poker than the machines.

Dante, i will be there tommorrow and play 2 or 3 times over the next week. I will let you know what i saw during my stay there. If i can get on the internet i will post before i get back.

I took some friends visiting from San Diego Downtown tonight. The lightshow has been upgraded and was pretty cool.

Played Poker for a few hours at the Nugget. It was nice enough, smoke free and roomy. Another plus is the location it's away from the insanity of the busy Casino floor. The employees are mostly a bunch of dipshits but that's SOP in most poker rooms. Highest limit going tonight was 4-8, four or five tables going. Service was very good, a real plus compared to the sh*thole across the street.

Overall a decent room. I love the food in the Carson Street Cafe. Try the Scampi, cheap and delicious !
