Local gaming people are saying this is great for Las Vegas. That may be but it will bad for the tourists who come here looking for a good deal. MGM/Mirage has a 20 cent baseball line. Mandalay Bay will soon have one too.

It is horrible for the player. All of this consolidation is a nightmare as the prices of rooms will go up along with everything else.

Chuck when are you going to ever realize there are beancounters running these joints vs bookmakers. No matter how many people on this site that knock Reno place like the Altantis and Peppermill are more affordable vs Las Vegas Casino's.

MGM/Mirage will now control just about all the high end casinos on the strip. Thats over 72,000 rooms. Come New Years Eve they will set room rates to the moon. Want a good deal at a buffet, forget it. Want to bet on a baseball game? You're going to pay 20 cent juice. Those slot machines are going to get tighter. The sucker tourist will never know. They're dumb enough to play BJ with 6-5 odds.

Herman, You're right. I just hope one day the gamblers will revolt and force the casinos to keep it fair.

I read someplace that if this goes through that they will control one third of the strip's revenue.............ONE THIRD............

I don't think a thing will change really. They both are already charging high rates and pushing your business onto player tracking cards. Neither offers a good gamble as it is. Might cut out a few options for lines, but I doubt it makes much difference to us all. What it will do is put some people out of work and that will juice up MGG's earnings next year when it was looking like it could be a flat to down year. Good work on the part of the management there in serving their shareholders, but nothing noticeable to the gamblers. Local employees could lose out of this, especially the well paid managerial and office people. I swear one more nail in the coffin for me, by the time all the mergers are done there will be about 100 finance jobs left in Vegas...

I can't see the FTC allowing this merger. How can one company own The Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excaliber, New York-New York, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, Belagio, Mirage, Treasure Island and Circus Circus and not be a monopoly? They would control at least 50% (if not more) of the rooms and 75% of the revenue generated on the strip.

It will still take about 1 1/2 years for the sportsbook to merge. The transfer won't take place till late 2005.

Why is that Herm? I have been to CP many times. I rarely see anything worth betting and when I do its low limits. What am I missing? Boxing promoters sure don't like this merger. Big boxing events were either at the MGM or Mandalay Bay. So much for competition.
