Hey guys, Played the most difficult and awe inspiring course anywhere this past weekend. Made the drive up to Sheboygan Wisconsin and played at Pete Dye's Diabolical Whistling Straits course. This place is something to see, the PGA championship is being played there in August and its being set up to be the most challenging major EVER! The tee boxes for the pros on most holes have been set up 50 to 100 yards back from the black tees! I saw that and wondered if half the guys will even reach the fairway because on some holes you will literally have to carry nearly 300 yards to reach a fairway!! The winds were not a factor the day i was there, but there was fog off lake Michigan as half the holes play On the lake, simply amazing. If you have the means (close enough and can afford $260 a round plus tip for mandatory caddie) i recommend it highly, i left the place stunned that i had just gone through such a difficult experience, but it was also very enjoyable.
Check it out!!

Its truely an expereince. Not one that I am up for challeneging again anytime soon, I was wasted after one round, I can't even imagine 4 days in a row out there in a tournament.

Your thoughts were the same as mine after I played the course. Not a place for a short player (like myelf). One of the most beautiful courses I have ever played. Love the scenery. it should set up for a tremendous tournament. The rough is also some of the nastiest beaver I have ever played. If you are not in the fairway on every shot you are going to have a very tuff time.

I called the day before, got a 1:40 tee time. No prob. Only real complaint is the pace of play is slow due to the fact that you MUST walk and use a caddie, other than that it was a breath taking experience

thats exactly what i was thinking on Satuday, where the hell are people going to be in order to watch whats going on, the caddie said there was going to be a large gallary area behind the 18th, but what about the other 17 holes! Should be quite interesting, people will be mingling with sheep.

Bobby Clampett played the course a week or two ago. Shot a 102 one day and an 89 the other. Micheel played it and said if anyone shoots par in the PGA Championship he will be amazed. Predicted 10- to 12-over will be a winning score.

If 10 to 12 over wins...

You will hear more bitching and moaning that you could ever imagine!

AND....

You will NEVER see another touring pro within miles and miles of the place.

These guys have HUGE egos and will raise a barrel of hell if the place is that tough to score on!

The tour refused to play one of the courses at Doral many years ago because they did not like how tough it was. Much tougher than the Blue Monster!

Amazingly enough, they couldn't even have played from the tee bixes that most of the holes will be played from, they were just finished setting up the "tournament" tee boxes when i was here Saturday, on some hols they were a good 100 yards furthur back, it was really something to see. They will have to litterally carry 280-300 yards on some holes to be safe.
