Personally, I am just not sure which one I prefer..........as a sports fan, or sportsbettor.

Would love your opinion on this SG.

In basketball where home court is very important it very much neutralizes the home court. If the road team steals a game like this time, they get a chance to run the momentum to the title. If the home team wins both, the road team gets plenty of opportunity to get it back in their favor.

My suggestion for hockey, a sport where home ice means little, I would go to 2-2-3 with the home team getting some edge for a superior regular season. Even in that format there would be some road team winners. If they did that in the NBA there would be few teams that would lose with the home court.

Good question Fish. Personally I hate both formats because they don't give enough advantage to the team that EARNED home field/court edge by posting the best regular season record. In the 2-3-2, the team that earned home advantage actually has a disadvantage in series that only go 4 and 5 games. Note that in a series that goes 4 games each team plays 2 at home and the DECIDING game is played on the road for the better team. The disadvantage is obviously even worse for a series going 5 games.

The 2-2-1-1-1 format is better, but note once again the lesser team has the advantage in series going 4 or 6 games (equal no. of home games and DECIDING game in their court).

My suggestion is a 3-2-2 format. Better team always has more home games in every series and lesser team must win TWO games on the road to win the series. This drastically reduces the chances of an undeserving team from winning a series by stealing a game on the road.
