As reported by the WORK-TV: "No one has been to more casinos than Ed Wheeler, really--it's official. The Guinness Book of World Records recently announced that the 77-year-old from Palmyra is the new record holder having toured 419 casinos since 1997. Wheeler has driven more than a 100,000 miles and he's crossed four continents on his casino quest.
"…His strategy is simple: hit casinos in bunches and never lose too much money.
"…On the rare occasion that Ed does win, he doesn't often keep it…"

Jimmy-- Just for STARTERS, as of two years ago, I had been in EVERY casino in the ENTIRE state of Nevada......or at least 99.8% of them. I am talking the entire state here.....Beatty, Carson City, Virginia City, Ely, Elko, Parump, Tonopah, etc., etc.

Throw in the fact that I have been in the majority of the casinos in EVERY state in the union that has at least one and would think I am pretty close to the above mentioned record.

North Carolina has only ONE casino that I know of and I have not been there.

So technically, that is the only state where I have not been in the majority of casinos for a particular state.

I'm with Fishhead here, 400 looks low. I think I've personally been in every Nevada casino that has an independent sports book, with the exception of the Elko places.

Roughly two million more Americans visited a casino in the United States in 2003 than in 2002, according the annual survey conducted by the American Gaming Association in Washington.

But otherwise the expansion of gambling remained relatively flat, according to the survey.

“From an economy standpoint, 2003 was not the greatest year in history, and that’s reflected in the numbers,” said Frank Fahrenkopf Jr., president/CEO of the AGA.

The study shows only part of the overall national gaming picture, however, because it does not include statistics on Native American gaming facilities, which operate now in 28 states — including California. Tribal governments generally do not share financial information.

The study does include some information on the six states with operational racetrack casinos in 2003. In those states, too, increases in jobs, state and federal taxes and revenues were modest.

About 53.4 million Americans visited a commercial, non tribal casino in 2003, averaging 5.8 trips per visitor, or 310 million trips. Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. and NFO WorldGroup supplied the survey data.

Additionally, acceptance of gambling remained high — with more than 80 percent of respondents saying it was at least acceptable in certain circumstances — according to studies performed for the AGA by two other independent research companies.

I bothered to do the research and this is definitely wrong. During the last 12 months the state of Nevada had over 350 "non-restricted licensees". To be a non-restricted you have to have a casino license. At times there is some overlap, but by these numbers there has to be at least 300 casinos in the state. Restricted licensees include all the bars and stores that have up to 15 machines, so if someone counted those as casinos there would be more than 400 places to gamble in the state alone. California has 40 casinos run by tribes. Washington has 83 operating card rooms, and about 20 or so tribal locations. Oregon has maybe 10 to 15 tribal locations. Just in the Pacific time zone you could visit this 419 casino figure by these counts.
