Ray Charles, known for tunes like Georgia on My Mind and What'd I Say, passed away Thursday morning. Charles died at his Beverly Hills home surrounded by family and friends, said spokesman Jerry Digney.

I attended a Ray Charles concert back in 1969 and still remember the magical and most original sound of Ray Charles. I have been a lifelong fan.

Ray Charles died of complications from liver disease.
