With the amount of holding, hooking and dumping of the puck into your opponents zone, how can hockey ever make itself interesting for the casual viewer such as myself to watch an entire game? I'm trying to watch a full game for the frist time this year and this is game 7 and I can barely make it through the first period. The only part of hockey I enjoy is sudden death OT when the next goal wins.

Try watching away from the puck. That sold me a few years ago. The bruising is what makes it awesome.

I feel the same way about auto-racing. Take the Indy 500 - how is watching 200 left hand turns exciting? Anyway with Hockey you either get it or you don't.

Watch the puck? isn't the purpose of the game to score the most goals and not watch brutal checks?

fun to watch if there is a lot of checks, fights, and scoring. if all you get is a lot of whistles and stoppage, can get boring.

i would love to play this game, how brutally fun it would be!

How is hockey entertaining? Put some of your hard earned money on it. It will quickly become entertaining, same for baseball or any other sport.

You need to go to a live game. An anology would be soccer for most of us (ok me), if you don't really understand the game its not entertaining. The more you know, the more you will enjoy it.

my 2 cents

What is exciting about one pitch after another to guys that might succeed 30% of the time in accomplishing something positive? Football might be more exciting at times but lets face it there are plenty of boring NFL games as well. I can understand boredom with some regular season games, but for my attention there is nothing that comes even close to playoff hockey and the later the round the better. Part of the appeal is the emotional highs and lows of the game, especially when you get to overtime. No sport can even come close to offering something like sudden death playoff overtime. Nothing can even come close. Look at the NFL, most OTs are decided by a slow drive with a couple of good plays and then a bunch of time outs before a guy who couldn't cut it as a real athlete kicks a field goal.

No sport is as exciting to watch. No sport is as exciting to play. Very who have actually played hockey at a decent level would disagree. Hockey suffers because it is essentially a regional sport and traditionally required cold temperatures to play etc..

Basketball is deadly dull to watch, tune in for the last 2 minutes and you've seen all there is to see. Football is made for TV, thus its popularity in the U.S., but is so stop and go . . . no constant action. Soccer can be exciting, but doesn't have hockey's speed or physical play. Baseball is not a sport. Neither is driving a car. Neither is golf . . . or darts . . . or chess. Hockey is all that's left. IMO only boxing comes close . . .
