Everyone has different opinions, but I think most would agree an arena-based sport stands a much better chance. Just not enough people for baseball where you need daily crowds and too much opposition from the NFL to get a football team. An NFL team is easy to support just about anywhere but LA it seems. Even in San Diego with a crappy team there still are over 50,000 people willing to part with $50 or more a ticket to watch the Chargers, that ought to say it all. Still though I think the debate is focused too much on a team needing support like one of the top teams when reality says that even middling support is better than what is seen for many franchises. If people just remember that New Orleans couldn't even sell out playoff games in year one then it becomes easier to see that whatever support Vegas did give wouldn't be all that bad when kept in perspective.

Nicky- There has been a lot of discussion about this lately and I completely agree with WildBill about MLB and the NFL. The most likely sport to get here first would be the NBA but even that is a long way off.

The TV market is considered small here and that really hurts ad rates. People work different shifts here so the fan base to draw from is smaller than one might think.

The thing that I feel is the biggest factor which isn't touched on as often as it should be is the entertainment dollar factor. The casinos here do a masterful job of getting people in their doors with that so called "disposable income". People here love the casinos whether it be to gamble, eat, see a movie or go to a show. That's money that wouldn't be used to buy tickets to a professional sporting event.

If the cheerleaders go topless, tickets are comped often, the air-coditioning is working porperly, all Vegas sportsbooks close during game, the team wins 90% of their games, and the games do not occur anytime during a RX Bash week..............then, and only then could it possibly succeed.

Then its still only 20-80.
