I enjoy most of the articles here on The Rx, but this one was terrible. Costa Rica is the twilight zone and nobdy in this world could confuse it for the States!!!!!!!!!! Safe??? English Speaking????? Similar to any other city in the states???? ALL COULDNT BE BIGGER FALSEHOODS!!!!!!!!!! Costa Rica is dirty, dangerous, non english speaking, twilight zone, and the only city in the states u could confuse San Jose with is the south Bronx!!!!!!!!

advantages and disadvantages of wildbill's article...

a plus... probably he made 3 or 4 more tourists to come down here...

a negative.. i don't like the part when he says... that is good for retirement...

Make sure its that air far far away from SanJose, and since thats where Wild Bill visited dont tell me about the other parts of the country please, like your beautiful beaches that are about a 4 hour death ride from San Jose!

The whole "Cr sucks and the US rules", American's crap, Slim. Bottom line, anybody is welcome to come down here, if you like it, you are welcome to stay, if you don't, you are also welcome, but to leave. This topic is reaaaaally getting toooo old.

Ok, I just read it and dont understand what the big beef is. You can be here for a week, depending where you stay, where you go and you hang around with, wont have to utter a word of spanish. No, it doesnt look like NYC or 1/20th of it, but you can compare parts of it *like Escazu* with small US cities.... Yes, we have crime and yes you have to be careful, but then again, we're not exactly waiting for an Al Qaida attack any day now are we....

This is a funny point that is sometimes exploited, the fact that a tourist is killed...
To me personally its funny to see a tourist walking around the "bad part" of San Jose also known as Zona Roja *or red zone* after 10pm....

I mean come on, open your eyes, realize what you're walking into, the fact that no one is out on the streets, all businesses are closed, streets arent exactly well lit, and yet you see a dumbass or too walking around like they were in an amusement park in the middle of the day...

Of course, not all of Costa Rica speaks english or tries to, of course not all of it is as safe as your own hometown *wink wink* but to say his article is inaccurate???? Come on.

I think that chips has a right to express his opinion, whoever the way he puts it shows a lack of education from his behalf.

It's a Shame that people like chips only looks at the lesser things. I live in CR for almost 10 years I would NEVER but NEVER consider going back to NY. I love it here. Of course you have security issues like in ANY PART of the US and the rest that he posted is HO HUM for me... I LIKE IT HERE and I PLAN to DIE HERE.

Regarding Speaking English, I have no problem with the locals, they're great, and i don't belive that we have to make them speak OUR language being in THEIR country, Learn the language!, Be a Gringo Simpatico.

I thought Wild Bill's article was pretty accurate about what it's like to land at the airport and stay in San Jose.

The airport was custom-made for US people and I actually enjoy the many shops, the bar, and even the Burger King with the $8 whopper value meals.

The shopping malls in the San Jose area - Multiplaza, San Pedro Mall, and Mall International are all very much like US shopping malls.

Drive around enough and you'll find the Denny's, Pizza Hut's, KFC, all the other usual fast food places as in the US.

Many hotel chains from the US are also present there - Best Western, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, etc.

Costa Rica really only becomes un-like the US when you venture away from San Jose and head more toward the mountains, the waterfalls, the rivers, the rural areas, the beach areas, etc.

I didnt write the article, just made a post about an artcle on the front page here, is that ok???

Slim the article is filled with inaccurate statements, spend 2 hrs in CR and no way could it be confused for any city in the states, maybe if they put a hood over your head after leaving the plane, drive you 20 mins to Escazu and then take the hood off then u got a point, other than that forget it.

JB, its funny, your comments reminded me of my father, whom died 6 years ago. He, from NY as well, loved the US and even cried when he would hear the US anthem *like before a baseball game* but he wouldnt change CR for a thing. I guess its all a matter of opinion, however as you say, how you present your opinion is as important as the opinion itself. God bless our borders are open to anyone who wants in or out.

I think Chips saw to many Chuck Norris movies in the 80's were the "tourists" were hijacked and stuff like that...LOL And the All American Hero who can shoot 90.332 enemies came to save the day. I look back and I remember watching those movies and think, what on earth was I thinking...LOL!

Going back to the mainstream, Chips chill man, take a ride to the country side, go beyond San Jose man....hit the beaches, Monteverde...I really recommend it.
