If you are over 55 I say commence with the azz whipping. If he hits you first and you are defending yourself the police really aren't going to put an "old man" in jail. With that said, just be ready to deal with the hassle from the cops.

Thinking about the law and what can and can't be done is the wrong way to contemplate imminent physical violence.Things rarely happen favorably. Do you think the 17 year old is thinking about what is against the law?
Another alternative to my above suggestion is to file a report at the police station prior to any violence.Stating that threats have been made, you feel in danger etc. and leave it at that. get the officers name who you gave the report to and remember it.establish prior history however brief.

These days one can never be careful enough, I use to take no shit from anyone...But after getting older and wiser I will turn the other cheek , of course I would not stand for being belted, but then again that has never happened....
When it comes to ones own children, you either put the time in from day one to discipline them or you will pay the price down the road...the problem with most parents now days, they aren`t willing to put the time in....kids eventually are running wild because of it...
I don`t think you really need to spank a kid if you parent along the way...not always the case but its possible
