Would you play at a book that offered this?

Sort of a one stop bet shop. You can call them and say the best available on the giants is -42, I'd like to lay -41 and they book it. Sort of like a bargain basement. You no longer have to shop for lines. Like if you go into a electronics store and tell thme you can get the tv you want for 350 at the wiz and they give it to you for 349. Do you think a place like this could survive. I think it would work great for both the book and the player..What are your sharp opinions.

They've already got one - it's called Pinnacle.

Seriously, this is a mathematical impossibility (assuming you can bet on either side of the game), since at any given time, if you look at a cross-section of the top 100 books, there is almost always at least a "break-even" scalp in existence (in other words, one of these books will have +145, while another has -145). Tough to make a profit offering +146 and -144.

Well, 5Dimes has 5 cent baseball overnights, and it's still rare when they have the best number on both sides of the game.

I think offering a cent or two to a caller would be ok for marketing, atleast until you got to many customers calling, but by then the book should have enough business to cease and be fine if they prove good ethics along the way. I am just not for sure how much sharp action there is. It may be much more or much less of what we think.

What if they gave you the 1 or 2 cents on the 2nd play of the day, equal or less money (I know you guys now, $10 first bet then $1,000 on the discounted line)? Or after every $1,000 in action you get a $250 play at a 1 or 2 cent discount?

I think it would work if the book let you do it for a set limit per game and the bookmaker was sharp enough to understand how to use it to his advantage.

Tip for you Vegas bettors--When at the betting window, mention to a supervisor that if you move a certain game a half point, I will help you square your books up a little more.

Granted, it helps to personally know the linesman on duty, but personally have done this many times.

Consider giving it a shot, you have nothing to lose.............just dont make yourself annoying and do not do it on a continual basis.

The best way for this to take place would be online. You would have to have something akin to a holding tank. From there the manager or owner can look at what is offered and pick what the shop wants to take. The players would have to allow the book some time to look things over, maybe 30 minutes and the proposed bet has to be valid for at least that long. Similiar to a betting exchange in a way.

Gentlemen..

Any good player who asks for a penny or 2 of the dime line at my shop on a game gets it..A good customer in any business gets VIP treatment..

Other times good customers may ask me if I need help on a particular side..If I need it..I give them a good price..

Baseball is not about margins..Unless you play the run line, its win or lose..

Where is the pigskin?????

Mr. Borat..

Where I come from there is a saying..

BEARS MAKE MONEY..BULLS MAKE MONEY..PIGS MAKE SHIT..

A good customer is measured through action, consistency, and longevity..

Through the years my customers know my generousities..I always tend to give the player the rite of way..

Years ago it was different..The player sought you out, and the relationship was guarded..Today the environment is competitive, and more open..

Most BMs in my day, were givers not takers..I have tried to remain true to my teachers..

Thanks be to you mr sportsbettingtrivia. I love so much to hunt the bear. In Kazakhstan one time every year we shoot the bear for fun. Now there is no more bear in Kazakhstan. Is this what you mean? In Kazakhstan we say " a bollucks in the hand is like two bushes"
