I think posting here saved my life last night...

I still have this 9-5 for appearances sakes, and out of loyalty for a 33 year friendship. So last night is my split shift 12:30 to 21:00. Pistons game ends, I finalize up all of my threads, give Journey man shit for popping off the Idol winner and look at the time, it is 21:30. First time I have not walked out at 21:00, on the dot. So I jump onto Interstate 80, the one that goes from San Francisco to Ocean City, Maryland. So I get past Vacaville and close to a small town called Dixon. Traffic is stopped for hours. Ambulences drive by, to the scene, come back with no lights or sirens. Several of them. A lot of flatbeds, Caltrans water trucks. Tons of CHP's. Finally we are diverted off the freeway. From the side road I can see close to 40 emergency vehicles, freeway is completely closed at both exits. So I read in the San Francisco Chronicle this morning, only an early report, car jumped over center divider, into oncoming traffic, into big rig, and some other cars. All burst into flames, so bad, could not get an accurate count of fatalities, it was real bad. Had I not been posting, and left at my usual 21:00, on the dot, at that time of night there is no commute, so my placement on the freeway is within a 5 minute range, it put me right there, at 21:32, when I think it took place. I am always in the fast lane, doing 80, right there. Next trip on late shift, I only work it Wednesday, I will drive my normal patterns and speeds, and see where I am exactly. But I already know, right there, give or a take a minute. Maybe somebody can find/cut and paste the article. It was in S.F. Chronicle, under local, Vacaville. Needless to say, I am exhausted and not so mentally sharp today...Best Wsihes...OF

At least four people were killed Wednesday night when a car crossed into oncoming traffic along Interstate 80, striking a big rig and another vehicle, according to the CHP.

The accident was reported just after 9:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Meridian Road exit, said CHP spokesman Wayne Ziese.

"Early indications suggest a westbound vehicle may have crossed the divider,'' Ziese said. "The vehicle did strike traffic headed eastbound. A big rig and another eastbound vehicle, at least, were involved in this.''

Ziese said one of the cars struck in the accident burst into flames and that some of the occupants, if not all, died in the fire.

"We're going to spend hours trying to document what we have out there,'' he said.

Eastbound lanes of the freeway were shut down with traffic diverted onto city streets. The CHP said the lane closures could last for up to six hours. Ziese said investigators who specialize in accident investigations were called in to examine the chaotic scene.

The accident was preceded Wednesday by another bad accident on Interstate 80 in Fairfield.

In that crash, at about 3:30 p.m., a silver truck, hauling a trailer, flipped and landed on its roof east of North Texas Street, the California Highway Patrol said.

One person was flown to UC Davis Medical Center. Two other people were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

It looks like the Rx was good medicine last night. Try to enjoy everyday of your life. You never know "for sure" if it might be your last !

Yes, it did jump over into oncoming, one of those short guard rails. I saw the skid marks and jumping place this AM, on way in...thanks for finding it WD, sort of has me distracted, or less focused, to say the least. A bit tired also. A big rig and another eastbound vehicle, at least. At least? Some occupents, if not all, died. Yes, they all died, those ambulences were silent. Brutal.

Update on the news, a jeep hit the center rail, ejecting both passengers into oncoming traffic, and then burst into flames. A big rig and two cars plowed into the flaming jeep and two occupants on the freeway. 4 fatalities. Does not get much more gruesome than that...OF

Gambling saves lives. I'm glad that the gambling Gods were looking out for you last night OF. Another reason why gambling should be legalized everywhere.
