A very interesting story behind it and the name. Can imagine odd stuff going on in that desert, just the isolation and intense heat in the summer lead to that.

I am sorry for using the "R" word - and NOTHING EL

me, too. i figured i have driven to-from vegas at least 50 times (sis lives out there) and passed by this sign more times that i care to remember. the drive to vegas sucks - because once you get past like rancho cucamonga, there is NOTHING remotely resembling civilization with the exception of victorville, barstow and baker until you get to stateline. they could drop a bomb between victorville and barstow and it would cause $.02 worth of "damage" - to the soil. you pass a mountain and then 15 minutes later you pass another one and you think "didn't i pass that same mountain 15 minyes ago?"

Thanks Brock, I've always been fascinated by that I-15 sign. And the Word Ways website looks fascinating also.

Ok ok ok...so, of all you folks who have passed by that sign...WHO HERE HAS TRIED TO STEAL IT???

I will admit, I passed that sign on many a college fraternity road trip to Vegas. Numerous times we thought about stealing that sign. However, the 6x6 wood posts and the cement filled holes in which they were dug had me thinking that others had tried it before me...

I heard an interesting thing on the desert radio on the way back to Vegas from LA and that was you should always check the weather forecast.

For example it can be 30 degrees difference i ntemp between laughlin and LA area. Snow can close down the passes on I-15...ETC

Something you wouldn't really consider when making a 3 1/2 hour drive.

I think there used to be, or maybe still is a RT 666 in New Mexico or Utah. Anyway i have heard that odd things occurred along this road. Anyone else heard about it?

I think the Manson family was arrested out in Baker in late 69. They left the Spahn ranch and headed out to Death Valley...

Little Tidbit..
