We always hear the term "wise guy" thrown out here on these forums...

But do you know what I consider to be the MAIN criteria that separates a "wise guy" from a "square?"

The first one who answers this correctly wins an RX shirt!

Good Luck,

Wise guys always get the best available line while squares don't tend to shop around too much.

Also, wise guys know the difference between singular and plural forms. "Criteria" is plural; the singular form is "criterion"

Wise guys get a feel for a number, and whether it will rise or fall, since they are not fixed. That gives you the ability to get that extra hook or more...OF

True wise guys play with enough of an edge that they don't hope to win each year, they 'know' they are going to win.

At the end of a year, if a true wise guy makes only a little money he thinks the year is a disaster.

The difference is..

The wise guy books you, and you book the square..

The wise guy is patient, waits and gets the # he needs..He has discipline..He comes to the table knowing what he wants for dinner..

The square picks up the paper with a opinion, and bets..Plain and simple..He comes to dinner with a open mind..If it looks good he orders it..

The wise guy wants the most for his $..Nothing wrong with that..He shops till he gets what he needs..

Imvho, sharp vs. square is an ego thing. "I'm a sharp. Give me $10K on the Packers tonight. I'll be in the bar, waiting for my money." Right. I agree with others in the thread. It's really guys who make money vs guys who don't. To me it's an instinct deal. Knowing when to pull the trigger, knowing when to pass. Knowing when to up the ante, knowing when to get small.

Even keel is my goal. Long since off the hurtful emotional roller coaster some young bucks now must ride in the rites of passage. (forcing the action, playing too many games, as if there was no tomorrow) For me, 2-1 is a good day. Getting the best possible line is paramount, basically a given. My definition of a sharp would be a mob family betting heavy on tonight's game. But those guys are only sharp when they really want to be.
