Does the software allow a book to make the timeout longer or shorter for certain players?

Thanks

one of my biggest pet peeves......oklahoma & sportbet have such short timeouts I am always having to log back in....

Pinnacle has a reasonable timeout.....

5 Dimes & Sirbet do not timeout....

SIA gives you about 1 hour before timeout....

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

I think this would be an OUTSTANDING feature. Why not allow each client to choose his timeout option. Let the player choose to set it at 15 min, 30 min, 60 min, 3 hr, 8 hrs, or NEVER. If the reason for the TO is so players don't bitch that their account was hijacked then allowing the player to choose means they can't bitch if something happens. In this competitive market, books need to separate themselves with customization and this would be a great start. Come on books...someone pick up the ball and run with this one. Some of the more egregious TIMEOUT books:
Skybook/IIS/Rio
Casablanca
Hollywood

Some books that do not timeout (thank you):
Canbet
Olympic
Intertops

The reason for the timeouts is NOT account hijacking. The reason is that some pros will use several browsers or computers to camp out on multiple books, then try to jump in on a bet before the line changes.

The timeout is the internet equivalent of not giving a long run-down to some sharps, in case some lines change before the clerk gets to the end of the list. This is an old tactic used by the sharps to "hold" a line for an extra minute, after it has been changed.

Basically, any player, who has not touched the keyboard for 15 minutes or so, should be considered logged-out. The vast majority of the players come in, place a few bets, and leave. The only ones that care about the timeout are the sharps trying to save 20 seconds and beat the linesman on a DonBest move.

Here is another example that will clarify this: Would a casino let a player sit at a blackjack table, without playing any hands, but then bet the last hand in the shoe?

If you are logged in, you are either active or you are knocked off. The sharps that try to take advantage are exactly the players the sportsbooks don't want anyway. The timeouts don't affect the squares, who are more profitable for the book anyway.

Yes, they can bet set differently for each player.

Some books will even use a long stall tactic and keep you in a que while the line manager okay's the online bet.(Usually resulting in a "line has changed" response to the bet)

My question is if Oly can do it and survive us horrible sharps then why cant everyone?

Next question. If one is obviously not a steam chaser, then would the book likely change the setting if asked?

Krackman-
Oly may have enough square business, may have good enough handicapping that they are not worried, or maybe they are willing to operate with lower hold percentage.

General-
The better questions is: why would a non-steam player need to worry about a timeout? The timeout correctly penalizes the steam players that are camping out on the site.

BTW, from a technical point of view, holding an inactive player's connection can eat computer resources needed by active players. In the software I wrote, a loop would periodically clean up inactive sessions and retrieve computer resources. The advantages of timeouts far outweigh any disadvantages to the book.

Java,

I think it is obvious as to why. It is not very entertaining to have and login several accounts to check lines and then step away for a piss only to have and login again. I do understand it protects books.

This was one reason books timed out in the past, but it doesn't apply now. Browser settings can be adjusted to prevent timeouts---timeout features don't stop sharps or steamchasers. I also strongly disagree that books don't want sharps, only some books don't want sharps---the real books that actually BOOK. Those books want balanced action and they get it by booking everyone. There are two little shops that do OK by booking everyone, anytime: Olympic and Pinnacle.
