Well, the State of New York, of course. That is, if the Jones boy wins again and becomes the first Triple Crowner since '78. Because a lot of folk will bet the horse and hold onto the ticket as a souvenir. After a certain time, all uncashed tickets revert to the state coffers.

One sidelight: Daily Racing Form editor Steve Crist (son of film critic Judith) went against Smarty in the Derby AND the Preakness. Egg on editorial face. He will surely go against the Philly Flyer again in the Belmont. Handicappers call it "looking for value . . ." and the mile and half are tough for a 3 yr old, but even if I go against him becuase of the bad odds, I'll enjoy seeing Crist land on his ass again.

Plenty of the same today at Pimlico, $5.40 cent souveniers. Not to mention OTB sites like Philly Park. Tens of thousands of 2 dollar tickes will go uncashed. Nice racket.

no doubt smarty jones has become a monster of a racehorse............

but this time last year people where singing the praises of a overachieving horse by the name of funny cide......

who btw won the Preakness by almost 10 lengths....up until smarty the largest margin since survivor in 1873.....

remember how funny cide used stalking tactics to dominate (like smarty jones) the kentucky derby and preakness??

in the belmont, funny cide the stalker became a front runner clear on the lead, setting hot fractions....and faltering late in the stretch......

will be an interesting belmont....
