At 20-14 the Yanks have casually and quietly moved past the overhyped Red Sox and into 1st place...Boston looking very average and all the preseason hype was just that HYPE...No more talk of 110 wins, Shilling going 23-4 or Boston being the better team on paper....The Yankees haven`t even done much yet and are ahead of the Sox....

Looks like another long year for New England , atleast they have the Pats to look forward to....

We`ve only just begun;

New York 20-14...-
Boston 20-15... 0.5

What scares me as a Sox fan is guys like Millar, Mueller, Ortiz, Varitek and Nixon all had career years last year so probably won't duplicate. No guarantee what kind of year Nomar and Nixon will have coming off of injuries.

Yankees are already a 1/2 game ahead and Williams, Jeter, A-Rod and Giambi haven't even started really hitting yet.

The Bosox are BETTER than the YANKS on paper.

For crying out loud, NOMAR and TROT have not played one game this year........and the Bosox are only a half game behind the Yanks and have beaten them 6 of 7 this year.

But it usually has beer in it lol...So sometimes he is a little intoxicated....Hey Fish in all seriousness you have the Bolts, the Hawkeyes and The Pack...thats not so bad.

Mudbone hit it on the head...Alot of Red Sox had career years last year....the Yankees team is made up of name brand superstars, who haven`t even been hot yet!!!

Fish`s Bosox glass is half full with suds!

Kimm was sent packing, its a start....Yanks win this going away!

JMan-

As excited as I am that the Yanks are in first....I'll just wait and see until

1) Normar and Trot get back AND
2) Jeter and Bernie start hitting AND
3) Moose returns to form AND
4) Steingrabber either gets a 5th starter or Contreras shows us 3/4 of the player he was last year.

In other words, I'll take the Yankees' reversion to the mean over the Sox's reversion to the mean.

The RED SOX need to get healthy and the Yanks need to make a couple deals or else the Birds of Baltimore are going to beat them both out.

Not gonna happen.....The birds are a threat for sure but THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL the Sox or Yanks let this season get away....too much pride and competition between them.

If the Yanks get a reasonable 5th starter the AL East is OVER!!!!

I don't think it's worth it to trade for one but George wants to win at all costs.

JMan-

On paper before the season began the Sox were probably the best team in the East. The Yanks had a ton of ?s and no lefty starter.

nothing to worry about, the Carlos Beltran to the SOX rumors are alive and well
icon_biggrin.gif

bulk of the deal:

sox get beltran
SEA gets damon
KC gets F.garcia

as of now all teams deny the trade, it is talked about in the local papers of the respective teams. the denial deosnt suprise me, after what happened with the A-ROD deal. . .however; espn and espn news continues to let the rumor float.

I can say the same about Boston, no 5th starter...and while its ideal to have a lefty in the mix, its not impossible to win with all righty`s...the Cubs have all righty`s and no one mentions it?

Boston may indeed win it all, but to say they are better on paper is absurd, comparable, yes...

A lineup that has; Giambi,Sheffield,Jeter,ARod,Williams,Posada,
Matsui,Lofton...

Not the typical Yanks staff; Mussina,Brown,Vasquez,Rivera...the questions on New York`s staff, 95% of the teams would love to have such problems lol..

Has anyone noticed Boston`s fielding problems (2nd worst in baseball)...?

The East might not get the Wild Card even..

In case anyone missed it - The Red Sox moved back into 1st place behind a masterful 3 hit no run 8 inning performance (4-0 win) by number 5 starter Bronson Arroyo. Keith Foulke got the save (8th) while lowering his ERA to under .045. Yanks lost to Seattle in extra innings 13-7. Red Sox total of 22 wins is second only to Anaheim (24) in all of baseball this season.

Note: Yanks relievers Rivera, Gordon, and White eached pitched 2 innings today, and may not be available tomorrow. Possible OVER or play on Seattle.

Oh yeah - Sox brought up rookie prospect Kevin Youkilis to play 3rd. base for injured Bill Mueller.
Youkilis, recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket before the game, went 2-for-4 in his major-league debut. He hit a towering homer to left field off Pat Hentgen (2-3) in the fourth, giving Boston a 3-0 lead.

Like I have said since pre-season.......Bronson is 2-1 over Kim........as a starter.

Nice to be in first place with a make shift line-up the entire year.

Two superstars out, and still atop the standings.

it is terrible. even today crespo called off someone on a pop fly to left he wasnt in position to catch it and it plopped out of his glove. a play most 12 year olds could make. crespo should have never called off the other player to begin with. i dont understand why they are having all these problems. if everyone could just hit it to pokey and damon it would be appreciated.

When Nomar's back the fielding will improve. Goodbye Bellhorn and Crespo in the field. Plus Trot in right is better than Millar. This is the year.
