Funny - I recall you saying Eddington was your horse. Another OF past post?

quote:
Eddington better bred for Preakness distance, stayed out of slop Derby. Rock Hard tough out of ten hole, early speed negated. Both are green, and horses sitting derby usually stink in Preakness. But very different slop Derby may change that up. Eddington today, Rock Hard in Belmont if he shows something today. Might wheel Eddington on top, drop out smarty. Always make best money at Belmont, biggest prices from public bias after first two, but it may show today. Best Wishes...OF

Wil, my friend, have several posts, had outside 3. 9-11, I think in the string turning point in Philly. I also said many times I did not beleive in smarty. I lost money, lucky to cash 5 on place. Ended up with Eddington to win, a horrible 10-1, 11 at 70-1 and Rock at track win and place. Are you OK with that? OF

I did not do horribly bad. Got 2nd and third behind a 3/5 horse. Rail opened nice, but easily the better horse. Scared the hell outta me when he fought at gate, expended a ton of energy. Anything bad happens to chalk, and my big dogs were right there. Lost 1/2 nick. Easily worth the shot. OK Wil? OF

OF - fwiw I appreciate you posting your opinions. Problem is if you are going to prop one horse or team and bet another it really is not very helpful to Rx. posters who follow your picks/plays. For example it clearly looked like you were betting Eddington, but you claim your big bet was on RHT. See what I mean? Anyway, not here to bash anyone. Best of luck.

If I owned Smarty Jones--

I would tell the press and all his fans to get a real good look at him in three weeks at the Belmont Stakes. Why because, if he wins that one--his racing days will be over at 9 for 9 .

His breeding days will begin and for a cool quarter mil a pop.
Guaranteed foals!

Good Luck Smarty!!

Had the exacta and trifecta boxed but didn't consider the superfecta. Used Smarty Jones, Lion Heart, Eddington, and Rock Hard Ten. Was hoping that Smarty wouldn't win but finish second or third. Looks like this year, will bring the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. Smarty is impressive. It will be a small field in the Belmont and probably have little speed so he will be able to control the pace and the race.

You are absolutely correct my friend. That was very inconsiderate of me. I was sort of capping aloud on that post. Finalized with outside 3. Was not my intent to mislead anyone, or pick multiple spots. Did very well at Pimlico, for the day. From now on I will be more careful and say, this is what I am thinking, and after I bet, will say this is what I got. Is that good? OF

Have to agree oldmen. Immediate stud, purse money not even close to stud. Won't die a freakish death on the stud farm. Could be the best horse I have seen in many years, or the weakest field. Pulling away in stretch was very impressive. One leg left. I truly hope he does it and retires...OF

What I found interesting was the small payoff difference between the trifecta and the superfecta recognizing the latter is for $1 and not $2. Considering the closing odds on the horses were as follows:

Smarty Jones: 3/5
Rock Hard Ten: 6/1
Eddington: 14/1
Lion Heart: 6/1

With the $2 trifecta paying $177.20, you would think a $2 superfecta at those odds would pay more then $461.40. Must mean a lot of players keyed Smarty Jones and Lion Heart with the rest of the field. But if that is so, why such a decent price on the trifecta. I guess because Lion Heart ran out. I was pleasantly surprised.

My crappy Eddington made the tri. Everybody had Smarty/Lionheart in all exotics. The tri excluded him. That was one of the better payoffs with Smarty winning. Decent tri for superchalk. Great job, I went for big payday if choked. Nailed some earlier on the card and decided to lock in. Before the derby he was a maybe. Now he is triple crown shoe in. Most impressive, different distances, this Smarty could win a 5f or 1 /1/2 miles. Probably 1-5 in Belmont...Best Wishes...OF

Nobody can crash Smarty's party
By NOEL MICHAELS
It's two down and one to go for Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, who dominated Saturday's 129th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico with a 11 1/2 length victory in the second jewel of Thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown.
Undefeated Smarty Jones sat just off a moderate early pace set by 9-2 second choice Lion Heart before rallying to the lead at the quarter pole and drawing off effortlessly down the stretch under jockey Stewart Elliot. He finished the 1 3/16th-mile race in a time of 1:55.59 over a fast track. Two horses who did not run in the Kentucky Derby, Rock Hard Ten and Eddington, completed the trifecta. Rock Hard Ten, who circled the field around the turn to move into contention, finished a distant second while never challenging the winner. Eddington closed late for third.

Smarty Jones paid $3.40 to win as the 3-5 favorite. Early leader Lion Heart tired to finish fourth. Smarty Jones, who is trained by John Servis and owned by Someday Farm, will now head to the Belmont Stakes on June 5 as a prohibitive favorite to become racing's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed last accomplished the feat in 1978.
