I think that he is in fact slightly hurt and is holding out because there is no real insentive to play yet. If this were closer to the end of the season and the race was thight he would be in the lineup.

Ellis Burks had surgery a few weeks back and is closer to returning than Nomar....

I don't know what to think for sure but I have bad feeling about Nomar...

I think Nomar does not want to rush back and reinjure himself cause he's a free aggent after this year and does not want to mess up a chance at a big payday.

and i can't say i blame him.

You can't blame him? How you could take that stance is beyond me.

Nomar will return when he is healthy. To even suggest he's not a "gamer" is ridiculous.

I think Nomar Garciaparra is a malingerer. I'll be glad when he leaves and I'm hoping he takes Pedro Martinez with him. The Red Sox made a strong effort to deal Garciaparra in the offseason but other clubs weren't exactly standing in line to trade for him. First, he's very overated and secondly, a club can sign him as a free agent at the end of the year.

He's a butcher in the field and leaves far too many runners on base. It's no secret that he's a bit of a me-me guy. He's a better than average major leaguer ballplayer and that's it. A superstar that can command a huge salary? Not even close.

Your right on target bob. Nomar will NEVER hit .360 anymore etc. He is now an above average player not the super star we thought he would be a couple of seasons ago. He is VERY me-me and very much a baby.

"A malingerer"?? "A butcher in the field"... We must not be talking about the same guy. What are you talking about, teams weren't standing in line to trade for him? There's about 25 teams in baseball who would LOVE for him to be their shortstop. The guy's played for peanuts (compared to ARod and Jeter) the last few years and has kept his mouth shut. As for his fielding, while his slinging style causes a few more throwing errors than I'd like, he's got great range and is certainly an above average fielder. Way better than Jeter. Lastly, while he may not hit .360 again, I'll take a shortstop who hits .300 with 25-30 homers, plays above average defense, and never takes a play off anyday. Gripe about Pedro and Manny if you want, but don't lump Nomar in with them.

I heard that on a night the Yankees were playing the Sawx Nomar showed up at the Celtics playoff game rather than watch his teammates play their biggest rival. That is BS. Manny gets the bad rap up there but to me Pedro and Nomar are the dicks of the team.
