Just heard from a friend in Canada that he can't, even via the priates, get DirecTV anymore and was wondering if anyone had a way.

Thanks,
Bart

I am in the same boat...the only thing I can think of is if we had a friend who lived in the states & they ordered a multi receiver set-up....& sent us one of the receivers?

Sports,
yo cant do that. Directv sends a signal and can see if the receivers are not all at the same location.I have directv and tried it as i had 3 receivers and only needed 2 so gave 1 to a friend only 30 miles away and they shut it off within 3 days.

Only works if the receivers are connected to a phone line.

I know of one legitimate subscription, billed to a US address, with 4 receivers one being located in Montreal and the others in Vancouver. Otherwise the receivers are receivers only and not transmitters and their position is not known.

In any case the idea is crazy even if it were company policy. I have Canadian Bell ExpressVu with 2 receivers. Both are in my home but when I go on the road for 3 months in winter one goes with me with a dish so I can get the signal all over the States. I see plenty of Directv dishes attached to RV's on my travels and presume they all work together with the one they leave at home with the kids.

Now if the pirates are cut off thats another matter.

Woody,

Is Canadian Bell Express VU some way of actually getting DirecTV in Canada? My friend would gladly pay for DirecTV, but he doesn't believe that he can, that the only way to get it is from the pirates, due to the CRTC Board trying to impose some content rules on DirecTV when they applied to broadcast in Canada, so DirecTV basically said, "No thanks".

The dishes you see on RVs are specifically set up for RVs, DirecTV has a whole set of paperwork specifically for them, and since they aren't connected to a phone line, they supposedly won't be able to get the subscription sports services. I say supposedly because I have NEVER, despite being told by DirecTV that I would need to, had any receiver hooked up to a phone line, and I have received the sports programming (NFL Sunday ticket, NBA League pass, etc.) with no problem for two years now.

Bell Expressvu is an all Canadian system. They now have 2 satellites called Nimic (1 and 2, I guess). The location differs from DirecTV, of course, so I often get kindly interference when I set mine up at campsites from people telling me I'm pointing it in the wrong direction. The content is entirely different. There is no paperwork to take mine on the road. It is not guaranteed to work in the US, since it is for Canada but they have no idea where it is. It works fine right along the Mexico border by the way. I have never plugged mine into the phone line, I don't need or want extra subscription service and it is not necessary for the system to work. If the company balks you can always say you don't want the kids playing with it and costing you money, after all they can use these things better than adults.

DirecTV will not knowingly provide service to Canadians. The way around this and the stupid CRTC regulations, used by probably several thousands, is to have the billing sent to a US address. US addresses are available at storefronts in most US border towns as mailboxes and add a little to the overall cost.

does every receiver have to be tied up to a phone line?

why do you need a phone line at all?

Bell Express vu is simply a Canadian Satelite Company....
