Alot of people claimed the Orioles & Blue Jays would be much improved and be close with the Yanks and Sox.

sherman,

i didnt realize that. especially with the o's starting pitching. also, the o's bullpen has been a very pleasent surprise.

Ryan has been awesome in the pen, Groom has been OK after a horrible spring and Rodrigo Lopez has been unhittable in long/middle relief. The starters are so young we know it's a matter of time before reality sets in but the offense will keep them in lots of games this year.

RPM,

don't know if you were being sarcastic or not but MANY people said the Orioles and B Jays would compete in the AL East. I was one of the people that beleived in the Jays but I didn't buy the Orioles. Still too early to make a final determination....

coinciding with ownership allowing baseball people to have full say on what goes....not a coincidence...

Flanagan, Beattie and the new skipper Lee Mazzilli are the biggest reason for the turn around...

Many folks expected that they would hang tough with NY and Bos. Possibly challenging for the AL East and a wildcard spot since the Yanks and Sox would be distracted with each other.

Rodrigo was the O's number 1 starter !! He fell apart a little, got himself togther in winter ball. Mazilli will soon be forced to put him in the roation as a few youngsters struggle. I wish we could keep him in middle relief but too much middle relief work, of course, only means the starters are ineffective. I'd settle for 85-77 and a solid third this year.

That is the F'n truth!! Thank goodness Sid Thrift is gone - he was the laughing stock of the league and all O's fans.

since I`m a little down I will let that last comment slide...But I will say this, big Ed had a classic stance and swing and was the 2nd best switch hitter ever!

EDDIE's only trouble was trying to stay upright with his 75 lb. afro. He and Oscar Gamble were brothers in a previous life.

Hard to believe you never saw him play though...Eddie was a bad mother, he was the man , he was Manny Ramirez of RBI`s in the late 70`s and into the 90`s...but it was a different era, an era when 30 and 100 were considered great years...

Funny story , last night I flipped on Classic Sports and the O`s were playing Pittsburgh game 7 , 1979 World Series, I was at the game and never saw the broadcast before....sad ending though and still stings 25 years later...man those uniforms were funky! Pitt wearing Black and Yellow and the Birds wearing bright Orange tops...alot of color on the field...
