i realize this is a show a great many posters here have never seen - or maybe even heard of - but those that did/have know this was one funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny show. the episode where chuckles the clown dies might be one of the funniest 30 minutes in tv history.
for those who recall the one where lou and ted gamble on football games - that one rang true for a lot of people here.
and the last episode where everyone gets fired but the incompetent ted is a riot, too.

and if you really think about it "friends" really isn't a sitcom. a sitcom is where you can pluck any show in the series - watch it - and laugh at it. with friends - it built upon past show - and if you missed one week - you were screwed. to me - friends really isn't even worthy of Top 5 status. I WOULD agree with siuck that All/family is worthy of Top 5 status. i might also put "The Honeymooners" on this list, too.

"Friends" was above-average for the sitcom format, but by no means superlative.
"Seinfeld" was 10x as original and daring. Seinfeld actually wound up getting pretty upset at the success of "Friends": he felt the format (single friends living in NYC) was deriverative of his own show.>
