I just can't believe how much more i get done when I just say no to booze. No hangovers, no procrastinating, less fights with the wife. As a weekendalki, and a guy who loves his booze, I must say that I can easily see a day when I never take another drop. My only worry now is whether I will gamble more as a release.

On a personal note, I have now gone 10 or so days on a strict 2 beer a day limit or less.

ps- I feel NO difference healthwise and I am losing at an alarming rate gambling.

fish's situation can only be explained by the fact beer and other types of alcohol play an enormous role in one's cognitive thinking. fish got used to drinking a certain ammount when he made his gambling discions, well now his brain will operate differently sober and he has'nt been able to adjust.

just an educated guess, dont take me verbatim. .but i have noticed this also

for me:
drink beer like a fish each day - do pretty good
get drunk every few days are so - do completely awful
sober 24-7 - do my best

I wish you luck if your serious. I quit pretty much everything last July and havent really looked back. I get more done, think better, and am overall happier. The first months were pretty brutal though. Best of luck 2 you.

Alcoholism is not a fun thing to come down from. It is hard to make youself understand you have a problem. I had a problem when I was 20, but didn't realize it. Trying to quit after 30 was very hard. Now, I can take it or leave it. Good luck to all trying to get sober.
