Easiest bets of the year, or 'whale' bets? NBA playoffs

Just wanted to get everyone's feedback on betting unders during the NBA playoffs...

Conventional wisdom is that in any sport, in any league, as the importance of games rises, so too does the logic in betting unders. One figures with the games so important, the players take each possession very seriously and don't relax or play lackadaisacally as they would for a meaningless game. The consistently high scores of all-star games in both the NBA and NHL -- which aren't important at all, underscore the point.

Given the makeup of this year's NBA 2nd round teams, it would seem particularly prudent to bet unders. The Pacers, Spurs, Heat, Nets, Pistons -- and maybe even the Lakers, when they care -- all generally fall under the banner of 'under' teams. Wouldn't it then make particular sense to bet mostly unders throughout the playoffs?

The only time I can see the wisdom in betting an over is a 2nd half of a tight game. Since every game is so vital, if the score is even remotely close, one can expect the foul brigade to commence with even greater intensity than it does during the regular season.

So, I ask the crowd...despite the oddsmakers adjustments of line for the playoffs, would you agree that unders are generally a solid selection in the NBA, or does the public know this, and thus, is it a sucker bet? (Generally speaking). On the other hand, isn't the general philosophy that the public likes to bet favorits and overs in all sports, or is that CW thrown out in the playoffs?

Any input would be appreciated.

IMO, despite huge oddsmaker adjustments over the past few years, you will still make a profit leaning heavily toward unders in these playoff games. I think you are on the right track. The crux here lies in the fact that some seem so horribly low that you can't pull the trigger. If you have the huevos to take the under when these totals are ivy league low, then i am sure in the long run you will see a profit.

Usually best to wait for an over or two before pulling the trigger. Also the deeper into any series, the more teams focus on defense.
