SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Barry Bonds hit his 668th home run Thursday, giving Bonds and his late father, Bobby, a total of 1,000.

Bonds connected for his 10th homer this season on a 3-2 pitch from Florida Marlins right-hander Brad Penny in the sixth inning. The homer pulled the San Francisco Giants within 2-1.

The 39-year-old Bonds is third on the all-time list behind Babe Ruth (714) and Hank Aaron (755).

Bonds hadn't homered in seven games, since the six-time MVP failed to tie the major league mark for consecutive games with a home run last Wednesday night. The streak ended at seven in an 11-0 loss to the San Diego Padres.

Bobby Bonds hit 332 home runs and stole 461 bases in a 14-year career with the Giants, New York Yankees, California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Texas, Cleveland, St. Louis and the Cubs.

The next-highest father-son total is 636 by Ken Griffey Sr. (152) and Ken Griffey Jr. (484).

Today's homer was the 246th Bonds has hit since turning 35. He passed Hank Aaron (245) for the most homers hit by any player age 35 or older.
