Am I crazy? I'm serioulsly thinking about moving there. It seems the company I work for will be moving to Dingledink,Florida soon.

I like Florida but not the part they are going to. I think I would like Las Vegas, not sure what I can do for a living there, I'll work on figuring that out.

Can anyone talk me into or out of moving there? I don't have a gambling problem, so I don't gotta wory about that. I know the weather is freaky and the town can be tough. But it seems like a real fun place to live, with a lot going on.I don't know a soul in town, so is scary to pick-up and go there.

I'm young and single, I think its a better move than middleofnowhere, FLA for me. Fishhead for one, I think your fully qualified to weigh in on this topic, so feel free.

Vero Beach

South Florida would be fine, but its an hour from Vero to WPB alone. There is nothing around Vero in any direction, but I've heard its a nice slow paced small town. But it would be BORING and you can't get to S Fla from there to do stuff at night, too far.

You are correct on all counts. From Jax to West Palm Beach there is next to nothing along the East coast. The only places of interest along the path are Daytona Beach which is 2 hours North and Meritt island which is where they formally launched the space shuttle. Vero offers you nothing except warm weather.

Why not live in West Palm Beach and drive to your job. The commute would get old especially if you're used to short ones. However, you'll already be that much closer to the "night life" and won't have to worry about driving far to get home with your guests.

IMO living in Las Vegas is overrated. It's more suited as a tourist destination. My best advice for you is to check out the job market right now and gauge it for yourself because you may not be able to obtain anything in your current field or pay level. It just depends on your skills. There can be some short commutes in miles but it can end taking taking more time because of traffic backups.

You also have to add the happiness factor. You might have less social standing and/or money but be happy where you're living. Then again, you could make more and as an added bonus still be happy.

Good Luck

My folks are moving out there this summer and I am joining them for a while.(Single, nothing going on ,what the hell?)
Once you are off the strip it is like anywhere else in the good ol' USA. They are moving to Summerlin. NICE!!!!!
The weather is only ridiculous in the summer months but even then you stay inside. I live in NJ now and when it is 90 here it is ridiculously humid and you can't breathe. Atleast out there you can breathe.

Also how tough can it be to find a job in Vegas?

Good luck.

i was thining of doing the same thing...just picking up and moving to veags..im young and single and thought what the hell..but i think by moving there it takes away the excitement of going there on a vacation.. to me it's kinda like dating a hot chick..it's great at first and if you see her only once in a while, but if your with her every day it gets real old real fast!

awesomeagain,

That might explain my lack of enthusiasm. People around me talk about Vegas in the same way as people in this thread. To me it's nothing special. Been there. Done that.

MrNJsports,

Finding a job isn't the problem. It's finding a decent paying one. He also needs auto insurance and medical insurance. He doesn't have to worry much about eating. If push comes to shove he can eat at Arizona Charlie's if they still have that 49 cent breakfast menu and just tank up for the day. Palace Station was 99 and that was real good but I don't know if they still offer it.

It all depends on what he does now. There might not be anything in his industry there and he would have to change what he does for a living. I know I guy that worked for GM and he moved down here where I principally live and he considered $15/hour to be a joke. I explained that for that position in this area that rate of pay was standard. He ended up taking a position with a starting rate 33% less not including benefits.

Don't get me wrong. It's nice to live where you're happy but not all of us can do that and live with our parents to subsidize our housing costs. Enjoy your time in Las Vegas. It may be a dry heat but it's still hot. Try Sunrise mountain in the morning.

I've been here a Month. So far so good. I work on the internet so it matters very little where I hang my "work" hat.

There are 1.7 Million people here. Believe it or not there is a HUGE world outside of The Strip.

I've been to The Strip ONCE since moving here. There is money to be made in a city that gains 5,000 residents a Month. If you're a smart kid you will know how to "get some."

Good Luck.

Hanging out "Outdoors" in the Summer is no more an option here than it is in Florida. It's been in the 90's all week here, not really too bad. I did some "pool time." My Shih Tzu however is very pissed about leaving San Diego.

Florida is 10x better to me than Vegas.

VEGAS is MUCH hotter than Tampa.......dont let ANYBODY tell you otherwise.

You might get a kick out of living in Vegas for a couple years, chances are thats about it.

Dont get me wrong, some people love it.

To each their own.

My advice is go there and see for yourself.

Personally, I dont like smog, traffic, and a town with no culture.

I also dont like running into the constant con artists, bums, thieves, and the likes on a constant basis.

It got real old after 18 years.

Forget Vegas. No value at all. Best numbers on line on net. Plus the temp is too much. Not to mention smog and all the Socal people. Vero cant be that bad if it's in Fl. I thought you meant the panhandle. That is true redneck.
I lived there about ten years and don't miss it at all. Welcome to Florida. The water is fine. Jump in.

Yep, to each their own.

I still find it hard however to believe there are no scumbags, traffic or smog in Southern Florida.

I always thought people moved to Florida to die and people moved here to "live." I'm only 50 perhaps I'll join the rest of the clan in Boca when I'm ready to "cash in my chips."

Florida has trees and other vegatation to cleanse the air.

The Northeast and Southwest have the worse smog in the nation.

Do the trees and the other vegetation also help with the traffic and the scumbags or do they feed the snakes and bugs ?

C'mom buddy. I know you love Tampa and I'm sure it's a nice place to live. You got burned out here, it happens. You dealt with more smog working in smoke filled scumbag shithole casino's then you inhaled from the outside air.

You won't publically admit it but you miss the "action" here. It's written all over your posts.

I have not been here long. I might hate it. One thing is certian however. When I leave it will be with more money than I got here with.

From gambling ?

Hell no.

Is your Tampa home going to double in price anytime soon ?

My LV home will .... sooner than later.

Peace.

Yes, I miss the video poker action......although I have heard it has declined in the last two years.

Yes, I screwed up on selling my house in Vegas.....the damn thing has increased 50% since I sold it 2 years ago.

Don't the folks who follow those teams use old Cool Whip bowls for their salad and follow NASCAR ?
