I don't think this will be the permanent home of the WSOP....I can't imagine any other reason for the MTR Gaming Group to buy Binion's other than to eventually hold the WSOP at Mountaineer in WV.

Harrahs agreed to play the World Championship or at least the very end of it at the Horseshoe next year in connection with the 100th anniversary of Las Vegas. Oscar got that out of them, but they have long been saying that next year's event will be the first where they will have at least some of the events elsewhere. Can't really blame them considering the lack of draw there is staying downtown. They could get the cheaper players to stay there, but the high-heeled guys they want to participate in the tournmament to add a lot of dead money were staying down on the Strip and just strolling in for the tourney, then leaving. Casino doesn't make much off a guy that comes and goes just to be in a couple of tournaments and maybe a few side games.

Pinnacle should put up a few million dollars and hold a prestigious poker tourney on some island, call it the WSOP,have live TV, have interactive betting showing live cards without an audience and shove it right up Harrah's ass.

and Henry poker players are a very corruptible bunch, no reason to not pull the strings just like fox does with the other reality shows.

I think it was about 2 months after the event that ESPN started showing it. Then it was 2 months before most of us got positively sick of seeing it over and over

I understood Harrah's had the rights to the WSOP and Horseshoe trademarks.

Harrah's bought the rights to the Horseshoe name and the WSOP, MTNG bought the casino itself. With it they get the right to use the name "Binion's" in Clark County. They already own a casino in North Las Vegas, the Speedway, a little dump that does ok just because of modest competition up that way. They probably have their sights set on becoming something of a LV locals operator and having a site downtown isn't that bad of an idea if that is indeed their path. I think all the new blood on Fremont St realizes that the locals market is untapped and not everyone likes the cookie cutter approach that Stations and Coast is using.
