21 hits in 40 at-bats..........plus 24 walks!

9 Hr 20 Rbi

That equates to a .525 BA, .703 on base percentage, and last but not least, a 1.325 slugging percentage!!

Quite frankly, these are OUTSTANDING slow-pitch softball numbers.

He can hit .400 this year, but it wont count because he wont have enough official plate appearances.

I think you need 3.1 per game average or 502

He might end up with 450 tops.

Roids or not, what he is doing is unreal.

KING- Precisely, it is plate appearances, not at-bats.

Why do you not think he will not qualify??

Injury?

Fish,

Probably take 10 or 12 games off. That leaves 150. He is averaging 2.35 per game right now.

He is going to get walked 1 time per game for sure. If not more . He was walked 4 times last night.

They would need to lead him off for a month or 2.

If thats the case then I stand corrected. I always thought walks and sacrifices didnt count.

I know they dont count against you when figuring your average, but also thought they didnt add to appearances.

The more I think about it , you are probably right.

Will probably go to MLB.com to look up the rule.

He will be taking about 30 games off and, barring serious injury, will get his required number of plate appearances.

King- Trust me, that is the rule.

Thus the term, PLATE APPEARANCES.

Self-explanatory.

Its insane the way he is pitched to...we will never see this again, or atleast many years will pass before we see this...

Bonds at the plate , what he`s doing with his OBP and the way he gets one maybe two decent pitches a game its off the charts...

Fish- good point about the softball reference....

Remember when Brett hit .390 he was flirting with both .400 and whether he`d had enough plate appearances, because of the injury in the middle of that year...

There is a rule that allows a player to still collect the batting title if his plate appearances don`t qualify him...the remaining required plate appearances would count as 0-for how many he would need to qualify...

i know i was flat out wrong about walks not counting.

but journey, i'd be willing to bet its 502 plate appearances. it's 3.1 per game average.

i guess that 2 hour walk on the beach to clear my head actually cleared it of basic baseball rules too....

Yeah its 502, I have no idea why I said 402 lol...I must be getting senile...I was thinking 502 and typed 402...

I am positive about the rule I mentioned regarding taking 0-for to qualify...(if you are short as well)

2 for 2 last night with 4 walks.... .525 batting ave. now. It's incredible. If he stays healthy, he can hit 800 or even 900 homers. If he averages 40 for another 6 years, he'd have a shot at 1000. He's the greatest hitter to ever live. Doesn't EVER seem to swing at a ball, and when he gets his pitch he's on it almost every time.

Bonds is 9 for his last 12, with 7 runs scored, 10 RBI and 5 homers. That's unheard of even in slow pitch softball.

On the other side of the spectrum, Austin Kearns of the Reds is in a 1-for-38 slump. Think he isn't freaking out?
