SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds homered in his seventh straight game, but the San Francisco Giants lost 9-5 to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Bonds is one shy of matching the major league record for consecutive games with a homer -- shared by Dale Long (1956), Don Mattingly (1987) and Ken Griffey Jr. (1993).

Bonds has homered in the past seven games in which he has had an at-bat. He had a pinch-hit walk Wednesday, which does not stop the streak under baseball's rules.

His ninth homer of the season, a two-run shot off Brian Lawrence, bounced into McCovey Cove and a fan dived over the railing and into the murky water to retrieve it. The homer pulled the Giants within 6-2 and was the 667th of his career. Pedro Feliz connected two batters later.

When Bonds stepped on home plate, the slugger did his traditional kiss of the hands and pointed at the sky. He then pointed right to new Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp, dressed in a Giants jacket and sitting only a few rows up, a little to the right of home plate.

Bonds homered in six straight games twice during the 2001 season when he set the season record of 73 homers. He did it from April 12-18 and again from May 17-22.

How sick are these numbers in 37 official at bats Bonds has 9 homers, is hitting .514 with 19 RBIs while scoring 14 runs.

this takes such a back seat to whats going on with boston and NYY.

only 2 things are important in baseball this year: the red sox and the yankees.

people will have a lengthy discussion about why a-rod has gotten off to a slow start, who is the yanks 5 pitcher and when is nomar coming back before they sit there and talk about bonds hitting home runs. he's been doing it and losing year after year. its boring.

Rob, No doubt your Bost-NYY war is story numero uno the past year, but Houston's Four Aces/Killer B's, Fightin' Fish/Dontrelle mania, LA Dodgers return of cahones, Detroit's fight for repectability, Philly Phanaticism, Oakland's 3 Aces, Minnesota's reload/march on, and beware of those Birds!

Major League Boredom is going thru a mini-Renaissance!

That LAwrence kid laid one in there 2-0 to him.
Looked like a change up right down the tube, when he let it go I told my son to "watch this one fly" and sure enough Barry turned on it like no one else can, and then that loon did a swan dive into the cove..was quite a baseball moment for the archives !

They've been running footage this past week of Donny Baseball from when he had his 8 game HR streak...If you look REAL REAL REAL close at the crowd over the left field wall in the former Arlington Stadium, you can see ME! We also attended the next game when he failed to go 9 games.

Won't people let the 'roids issue go, obviously he has skills and can pull the hell out of a baseball right out of the yard if you give him a chance. Even if he did 'roids doubt that he would still be doing it now. Love it when people envy clouds the truth. Jerk maybe, gamer most definitely. Want to see a difference look at Giambi and what he's doing this year.

funny

I only asked when his last test was

and its people who dont want that question answered who are the ones that are actually furthering the entire issue.

although I suppose if he did test negative then started hitting bombs again I could always say the test was fixed...

ahh options options...

totally agree journey. i knew we'd agree on something eventually. lol

giambi did what it took to get big $$

ive spent lots of time in the fitness forums and they all agree getting big and staying big is all about eating tons and tons of food and working your ass off in the gym and being in tune with your body.

Bonds's body fat % and the fact he's been so injury free leads me to believe he is NOT on steriods.

barry only does 1 thing well though and thats swing the bat. we hear all this talk of greatness in a game that his team lost 9-5 in a home game to the sorry Padres.

does barry steal bases after his walks? NO
does he play the infield and make huge defensive plays, does he make big defensive plays period? NO

Rob, at this point does it make any sense for Barry to run and possibly get hurt? He was a good base stealer at one time...Also he has won several Gold Gloves....
He is nearing 40 I don`t think its expected he`s still a 5 tool player....

Rob, I thought for a second we did agree but then you responded lol

He needs 3 seasons...I think he has a 50/50 to make 800!!!

A couple years ago I put up a prop total for Bonds lifetime total, most people thought I was nuts putting the number that high...LOL, I will have to find that thread, I can`t remember the total I put up, it was close to 800 though.
