Eric Gagne seemingly un-hitable gave up two runs tonight on a two run shot by Barry Bonds. Gagne still got the save though as the Dodgers had a 3 run lead and held on to win 3-2. Gagne gave up his first runs of the season, while notching his 3rd save along with a win, in 5 appearances.

Bonds won the power vs. power matchup. One pitch after pulling a 101-mph fastball into McCovey Cove, but far foul, he turned on another hard one from Gagne for his fourth homer of the year.

"That guy was just throwing straight cheddar," Bonds said. Bonds hit his 662nd career homer.

What's Gagne have, like 65 consecutive saves in a row?? How many does he need to break the record??

Gagne recorded his Major League record 66th straight save tonight. He broke Tom Gordon's record of 54 straight last Sep. 2nd against the Astros.

I wonder if he will break the record of 57 saves in a single year by Bobby Thigpen? I see he had 55 saves last year so maybe this might be the year he breaks that record as well. Might be difficult though with the Dodgers lack of offense.

Gagne back to business as usual today. He picked up his 67th straight save (4th this year) by getting Marquis Grissom to hit into a game ending double play with runners on 1st and 2nd, and Barry Bonds on deck.

Before he gave up the HR to Bonds last night he got squeezed on a great pitch on the outside corner that should have stuck out the "Juiceman".

Gagne looked weak today. He gave up a homer, now two in two days after giving up two all last year. Then he got into a jam and found a way to get out of it thanks to the usually worthless Grissom. Gagne isn't nearly what he was last year, although the season is early. Once again shows how nice it is when you get credit for a save and have two runs to work with

That is called being smart Wild Bill. He bares down when he has too, but he is going to challenge guys when he has the chance. 67 in a row.

Try giving credit to Gagne for getting out of the jam instead of discrediting Grissom. Typical post of a bettor that lost and someone clueless to the game of baseball.

I had a wager on the Dodgers by the way. I have won betting on bases for 13 years in a row, you sure about that? Grissom has been a lousy player for years, Bill James or one of those guys that writes statistical analysis called Grissom one of the worst regular players because he generates huge "crucial outs", essentially not delivering when he needs to since he is always in the 3-4-5 spots on teams. He leaves tons of runners, strikes out quite a bit, doesn't move runners over...and today you saw exactly what he does. He reached at Gagne's pitches and tried to pull them even though Gagne was throwing the slider outside. He finally got one and weakly grounded to second for the double play. That is why I said Grissom is weak. Yes Gagne pitched to one batter well, but he looked terribly weak. I assure you he wasn't pleased with his effort today, he didn't have the gas which allowed Feliz to get around on the home run and he couldn't control the offspeed pitch and got into trouble because of it. I am not saying he isn't a strong pitcher, but if he faced a truly tough save situation today (runners on or just a one-run lead) would have been a blown save...simple as that.

It is not as simple as that. Great closers pitch according to the situation. They don't walk guys and create chances for the other team. I think Gagne knows what he is doing(67 in a row). His fastball was clocked at 101 yesterday and 99 today, so I think he has the gas, plus he has pitched 3 straight days. Thanks again for proving you are clueless about the game of baseball.

Feliz's homerun , by the way was an opposite field home run, once again proving you are clueless by saying "he didn't have the gas which allowed Feliz to get around on the home run". Clueless Bill.

Whatever...believe what you want. I watched the last two innings of the game. Gagne tried to blow one by him and Feliz caught up to it, just because it is opposite field doesn't mean he didn't have enough gas on it. He missed the pitch before and fouled it off. If he had more gas on that pitch it gets fouled off again. Your blinded by your hero, but fine as usual I gotta put up with people taking shots at me, comes with the territory. Go have a beer and celebrate!

He was clocked at 99 today and 101 yesterday, that is as fast as he throws. Like I said give some credit to the hitters and stop being a hater. I can tell you are one of those people that want to blame someone instead of giving someone praise. Lighten up, buddy.
