How embarrasing is that they boo the American National Anthem? That province is by far the armpit of Canada.

Ron Mclean of CBC was even embarrased at the latest stunt pulled by the senseless fans of the Habs.

What a bunch of whiners. Get the Expos out, Pro Sports should not be allowed in Montreal/Quebec until they develop some class.....

The fans of the Habs are way to arrogant for having such a poor team the last 8+ years.

Very sad to see this happen again. All I can say is that you wouldn't see this kind of disrespect in Toronto or Calgary or Vancouver . . . just a complete shame and a black eye for Canada.

Its so bad there that the EXPOS would rather go all the way to Puerto Rico to play. ANGUS you are totally right this would never happen anywhere else in Canada.

Truth is and Sick Gambler could tell you this, is if they found justification to play something of a Quebec national anthem and the Canadian anthem they just might boo that one too. I have to say Montreal is a great town and I have met a few nice people from there, I have met a fair share of snobs and assholes there. It almost feels like those people are out to make everything about a home-field advantage. They all complain about feeling so out of place when they cross into the US or even into Ontario that they make up for it by trying to be unhospitable to anyone that isn't from there and wanders onto their turf. Oh well, the friends I had there moved elsewhere so I haven't been back for almost 3 years. Such a shame, a lovely city with a great atmosphere and food every night of the year, but a lot of party poopers out that try to keep the anglophones from enjoying themselves there.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

I remember the Nordique fans would come down to the Aud in Buffalo by the bus load. I love Canada, but these Quebec-ers were the biggest collection of assholes ever assembled (aside from any permiation of policital scumbags in DC).

Not only did the boo the National Anthem (which actually doesn't bother me), but the fukers threw beer during the anthem.

I don't think that the majority of people were booing. If so, you are 1000% correct to say that about quebec.

Relax people. Montréal is a big city and to call Montréal or Québec the "armpit of Canada" is stupid. And what's even more stupid is that some canadians here in this thread don't remember that the American anthem was booed in other Canadian cities during several NHL games last year, after the canadian soldiers were killed by the "friendly" american fire. This time around, the booes came from individuals, not from the 21 000 capacity crowd, and it had nothing to do with the canadian soldiers. Québec is an unique part of North America, and while not being a French Canadian, but someone who lived there almost 20 years, I understand why they do not like English Canadians and Americans. If I was in their place, I wouldn't like the anglophones either.

And as for the title of this thread, I agree. They should be independent. They are sick and tired of bringing food on the table for Atlantic provinces of Canada and going to wars all over the world for the Queen of England.

Pete Rose Jr... Then why Ottawa does everything in their power to keep Québec in Canada ? Nice try kid, but we both know Canada would be no more without Québec.

What a joke, Quebec would fall apart on its own. Talk about a case where the world would just slowly pass a country by. In two generations all the anglophones would be gone and Quebecers would be wondering "why can't we have it like they do over there". I don't think either side would be all that better off, but Canada would keep progressing and Quebec would slowly tail off into being a forgotten slice of North America all in the name of a "special culture".

no one has mentioned that when the habs were sold not a single French Canadian stepped forward to buy the team...

it took an American...lol...to do so...

I however beleive it is a few 'Loud' drunks who were heard & not the crowd in General...

booing may also have to do with certain 'political' situations rather than general booing aswell.

Montreal is probably a better city to live in than 97% of some of the cities it's detractors live in. I live in Boston and love taking trips to Montreal. It is well cultured and absolutly gorgeous. The fact that they speak French does not detract from it's charm but adds to it. Do we want everyone in the world to speak one language..English? Remember what happened in the bible with the tower of Babel.

WildBill...It seems to me that you don't know a lot about Canadian Economics and anything else on that matter. Québec is (by far) the richest Province of Canada. If Québec gets its independence one day (and it will, as soon as the Liberals go down - which is a lock given their results since taking over- and Party Quéebécois comes back in power), the Atlantic provinces of Canada will be literaly cut off of Canada and Some other provinces (Especially B.C.) will most likely decide to go their own way as well. There will be no Canada. I don't say Québec will be a better place to live, probably not. All I say is that people of Québec deserve their independence.

And trust me, the Canadian Gvt. will do whatever it takes to keep Québec in Canada, the same way they did in '95, and well before that. There is more than one reason why Ottawa can't accept the separation of Québec.

P.S. Borat...exactly. Montréal is the only North American city to be voted by UN (several times) one of the best places to live in in the entire world. And it is probably the only city in the world where you can hear French and English equally when you walk down the street.

As for the rest of Canada, I will tell you one anegdote when I was younger and when I was visiting Vancouver B.C. I was with my friends and of course we spoke French, and all of the sudden, a waitress in a restarant in downtown Vancouver asked us, what was that beautifull language we were speaking. For God's sake, it was French. The official language of Canada, just like the English. Ignorance ?

Anyone talking about Quebec has no idea about anything in Canada. Those people should either lift their butts off their chairs and go visit a bit, or just talk about something they know. There is NO stronger province in Canada then Quebec, let's be honest. Quebec even has its own seperatist party in the Parliment, and they are strong as heck too. The Prime Ministers almost always come from Quebec, the Big projects come from Quebec like for example The Turks and Caicos Project lead by Massimo Pacetti, in St-Leonard, Que. I don't know why people say such things because we have seen people in other provinces boo the American anthem regularly and nothing is said about that.

And as of Ron McLean, was he as shocked when he heared his idiot co-host talk about french Canadians as sisi's. I wonder what his prime minister, who is French Canadian, would think of being a Sisi. And all of the people who represent Canada in the world, who are french Canadians also, what would they think of being called sisi's. Before judging of why people booed, understand what triggered those actions.

Am I saying it's good to do so, probably not. Am I saying those people are right to have done that, hell no. But do they represent 8 million people? now that's the Question.

Montreal is probably the center of the Canadian economy. No matter what anyone thinks, if you know anything about money, you would know this. And let me tell you this, if Quebec should be out of Canada, it would have already happened. I can promise you that no one, within the smart community of Canada, would want what this Pete Rose JR here is saying.

With all due respect Junior, go back to school, you might understand a thing or Two.. That's "2" in case you didn't understand.
