The last time I checked the local illegal bookies are not advertising either and they seem to do fine.

1) The locals bookies don't have the overhead of the offshore books (satellite phones, employment taxes, netteller fees, bonuses, etc.)

2) They don't need to advertise (other than word-of-mouth), precisely because they are local.

3) They are often dealing with unsophisticated players (no internet, use the line printed in the newspaper, pick their local team), so they usually have a better hold percentage.

This HURTS... bad.

Java has some valid points, the local bookies and the offshore post-up operations are two different breeds.

What would I do as a response to this type of Uncle Sam choking?

1. I'd drop any type of bonus TODAY. No more bonuses up front. I'd rather try to reward the loyalty of a customer. There are more ways than one to do this.

2. I'd apply the "successful" model of booking only for squares. Like BoDog. I thought it was highly unethical, but it works and people seem to love it. Shrink and 10,000 schills on these boards like them. So let's just fvck the serious player.

3. I'd start dealing a .30 MLB line.

Shit like this hurts... bad

What is the ratio of Serious Players to Squares?

Out of the top of my head: 2% of the players are serious players. Serious as in pro.

But don't let that ratio fool you, General. It takes many $200 bets to offset a $10K hit.

In view of recent events, I'd say the serious player is an endangered species

OVERTURE dropping the category was bad, GOOGLE being closed for business is AWFUL. Now it's the time to see who has marketing brains. This is by far one of the biggest obstacles the offshore books will have to overcome.

At least those that depended on marketing campaigns on the search engines to attract players. And it's definitely a kill deal for many shitbooks.

You're a sharp kid, Daaaaaaaaaaaanteeeee. A rare breed around here...

Are they just stopping ads, or will they stop searches from finding them as well.

IMO, would be a lot more devastating if I google

sportsbook

and came up empty. I just did it and came up with 3,070,000 hits and Bodog was the third one listed and Intertops was the fourth one listed (first was sportsbook.com, second was mysportsbook.com)

Sorry to say but isnt the American people starting to become too "Censored" lately ...
On top of that Google and Overture im pretty sure they know they are loosing not just a few millions here ... the US government is really putting pressure on their own people, reality is that Casinos and Books will just find other ways of advertising, people will find a place to look for their last casino and gambling stuff...

For me ... makes no sense at all ... all too weird ... when will the steam pot explode ahhh?´if you know what i mean.

YES

To our Govt,

I want you to leave me alone. I want you to stop trying to violate my right to do the thing I want to do. If I want to gamble, then let me be. I am no killer. I am no thief. I am no threat to you. You are threatening me and for what? I am causing you no trouble relaxing in the privacy of my home and enjoying making a wager on a sporting event.

If this type of political waste does not stop, none of us will like what we get.

No, I am not talking about a single threat from any one person, but a much more significant outreach by the citizens of this Country (America).

We are free and we will remain free. When you decide to ask my opinion and let me have a fair vote in my ability to gamble, then maybe it will be different, but until I, as a veteran and man of integrity, will defy your wishes of dictatorship, using this terrorism as a tool for you to obtain the ability to dictate my lifestyle and my ability to enjoy my pleasure.

Your war for now is and should only be with people of a sickening nature and thinking. Because of your inept ability to make proper foreign policy, there is no time for you to try and steal from me a right that I have been with since birth. Your efforts of prohibition will never stand.

You are losing Wars on all fronts, but yet you continue to push me as an American, to the point of which I cannot bear to stay loyal to you. I swore to defend the United States of America not long ago, but as each day passes I see more and more of your lack of care for me and my fellow citizens rights.

My Loyalty is there for you, but with each attempt to censor me or abolish a FREE right of mine, the Loyalty bank account is emptying quickly.

What else should we expect. Beyond the gambling issues, beyond the Patriot Act, and beyond the mess in Iraq which the Bush team wants to abandon responsibility for on June 30th so they can try to claim some sort of success...there is a bigger issue here. Republicans are quietly trying to usurp our democracy and two-party tradition. They do it with money, they do it with access, but most of all they do it with intimidating people speaking freely. If you speak out against them they will talk about your being "weird". If you speak out, you are against the war on terror. If you are a foreign citizen, your vote should only be for what they consider good causes, otherwise you are weak. And if you live in a state they just happened to gain a couple seats in during the last election you are due for completely out of custom redistricting.

Make no mistake boys and girls, they won't ever admit what they are really up to. Maybe call it usurping our democracy is a bit harsh, but they sure aren't the "freedom fighters" they love to claim to be. They are out to take our votes and make them meaningless. They are out to harass and threaten other countries either through force or by ridiculing their rights to vote with their conscience. And of course, they are out to make sure that their rivals aren't just challengers, but vanquished and nicely marginalized to where they can challenge them no more. All from a party that has mere majorities in Congress and couldn't win the popular vote in the last national election. Does this sound right to you?

The Google episode is just the latest example of using their power to try to force their will and desire upon us. They won't be happy with doing good deeds and just winning elections the old fashioned way. Oh no, they can't win solid majorities any other way but by changing the rules in hopes of creating an environment where Republicans can't lose. This won't be their last move, but we all know they can't stop people from gambling or looking at porn on the net, but they sure can try to throw us in some pot of people that through our deviant behaviors are supporters of terrorism. Shameful, just shameful. I have been a Republican voter most of my life, but I am just too disgusted to continue to do so anymore. I could think of 100 Democrats I would rather be running but Kerry, but anyone is better than this group of undemocratic thugs with no interest in being servants of the people.
