FOUR teams in the AL WEST

SIX teams in the NL CENTRAL

Real bright individuals running this league.

i thought so, too, but it actually makes sense and has to be done that way.

if there was 5 in each division there would have to be an interleague series all the time.

IF beisbol ever expands to 32 (please, mlb - DO NOT do it!) they could put 16 in each league and have 4 divisions of 4 teams and eliminate the W/C.

Yep, Winky nailed it.

For Fri-Sun, you have to have even numbers in both leagues.

How about swerving this Thread to - HOW SHOULD THE DIVISIONS REALIGN....

Another thought is that if we're talking about actual MLB organizations with actual MLB goals and plans, then the AL West and the NL Central have the same number of teams

I think the divisions are by far the most sensible in the MLB than anywhere else. The numbers issue is the only thing that makes for the disparity in the two divisions. Only 6 teams out of 30 are out of their proper time zones, ie a Central team in the East time zone. Not bad at all when you think about it. The only teams that are far from their opponents are the Rangers and Devil Rays, but there really is no other place to put either of them.

You hit the nail on the head

Having 6 team divisions and 4 team divisions is assanine

That doenst suprise me considering that the ****ign leagues play a different game- the DH is a joke

You dont need to have the divisions set up that way

Ideally ( I know this will never happen) id live to seee it go back to 4 divisions no wild card

I know everyone els ebut me loves the wild card but it makes the regular season menaingless
You play 162 games they should mean something

And if you are going to keep the wild card, then what is the point of the unbalnced schdule?
Its rediculous

Theyd me better off eliminating divisions and just tkaing the top 4 teams in each league than the system they have in place now

If you had done that, the Marlins wouldn't have been World Champs and the magic of the Yanks-Red Sox in the ALCS would never have happened.
Maybe for the purists, but I think most people like it the way it is and don't want to change a thing. Fans like watching the big rivalries in the interleague games and love the buzz of things like the Red Sox coming to play the Giants and the Dodgers and Yankees squaring off. And they like the chances of the divisional rivals both getting a chance to make the playoffs when they are both having a superb year. The final straw was the Giants team that won 103 games and yet stayed home. Just think about that team, the regular season meant nothing because they happened to be in a division with the team with the best record in baseball, which promptly went out and lost.

Youre right florida wouldnt have won either time

And i see nothing wrong with that

I was at game 7 ( as well as 1,2, and 6 ) of the yanks bosox and it was amazing

But i still think that the regular season should mean something
Interleague has meant nothing to me sicne the yansk and metsd played in the 2000 ws- the yankees were 6-0 last yr against the mets and i didnt even care

In what way does it render the regular season meaningless??

All it does is reward the top 4 teams instead of the top 3 teams.

Those four teams will have to play meaningful ball or they'll be sitting home in October.

actually 8 teams are making it instead of the 4 that used to

when there were 16 teams in baseball for 50 years or so 2 teams made it
now there are 30 teams so 4 makign it is abiut right not 8

the wild card has killed many pennant races since it was adopted and will continue to do so

having a wild card and an unbalanced schedule makes no sense whatsoever
