To get in this hall of fame do you have to be retired or will they take current jockeys/horses also?

You can get in (especially trainers) while still active.

I hope Eddie Maple gets in.

Stevens was inducted in 1997.

General Eligibility Criteria
To earn a place on the annual ballot, nominees must meet the following criteria:

1. Thoroughbreds become eligible when five calendar years have elapsed between their final racing year and their year of nomination;

2. Eligible Thoroughbreds are classified as Contemporary Male or Female if they have been retired between five and 25 years. Horses that have been retired for more than 25 years are classified as Horses of Yesteryear;

3. Active jockeys become eligible after riding Thoroughbreds for 15 years (any interruptions in their careers for injury not being counted against them);

4. Active trainers become eligible after 25 years as licensed Thoroughbred trainers;

5. The 15 and 25 year requirements may be waived for retired jockeys and trainers, but a five-year waiting period is then observed before they become eligible. In cases of fragile health, the Hall of Fame Committee may request that the five-year waiting period be waived at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

Mom's Command

Peter Fuller’s homebred Mom’s Command, which was trained by Edward T. Allard, swept the New York Filly Triple Crown in 1995, then added the Alabama Stakes. Ridden by the owner’s daughter, Abby Fuller, Mom’s Command won 11 of 16 races and earned $902,972.

Note re. Eddie Maple - he was on Secretariat for the great horse's last race. Winning the Canadian International in 1973.
