I thought I was done getting screwed by Big West refs this year, until I turn on the STJoes game and there is Vinovich getting me one last time for the road. I guess thats what I get for firing the ball at his head last year

Jaypaw,

Ill let Winky tell the story.

During the Irvine-Long Beach game this year the Irvine fans threw a waterbottle at a refs head, and then people from both benches started throwing stuff to get technical fouls called. The one Im refering happend at a Cal Fullerton game last year.

I am sorry for using the "R" word - and NOTHING EL

if you are bitching about the okie state game in the Elite 8 - you are misguided in your ranting. he did NOT do the game last night as you can see here:

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/boxscore?gid=200403270535

he hasn't worked a St. Joe's game this season - none during the regular season and none during the playoffs so he didn't "F" you at all on a st. joe's game.

as for rail and vinovich: i think it was during the last full season, 2002-03 in a game played at fullerton. not 100% sure who were were playing but i wanna say pacific (rail - you know fer sure). i am sitting behind the basket as you enter the place - one of the few times i did that. anyway - the ball bounces into the stands near the sideline on the other end of the court. this means whoever caught it has to toss it back to someone so they can use it (as is normally the case). i guess rail was the one with the ball. vinovich was the ref closest to the ball so he would be the one to have the ball tossed his way. only problem is rail didn't toss the ball lightly to him - like most would - but rather throws a randy johnson fastball at him. vinovich catches the ball but is NOT happy at all about how it was thrown back to him. i recall seeing the play and chuckling about how fast it was thrown back at the ref - but never knew it was rail who did it until he said so.

rail - here is something you will find humorous. i ref HS ball in South OC. i wanna move up to a higher level. i actually do respect vinovich so i wanted to pick his brains and all. i have friends who ref BW women's ball so i had them get me a number for him. i got it and called him up and we set a time to meet. we met at the hof's hut off 17th/55 in tustin. i got the baconburger with a turkey patty instead of beef. after i leave, about 2 hours later, i'm not feeling very good. turns out i got food poisoning. for anyone who has ever had this - you know it ain't fun at all. it takes 24 hours of eating nothing to clear your stomach and feel better.

as for vinovich - he has been a side judge in the nfl the last 3 years. this season for nfl europe he will be doing games as a referee since he and the nfl want to move him up to that position sometime down the line. the crew he works on during the season - ed hochuli - was picked to do the SB but bill couldn't do it since he doesn't have 5 years of nfl experience - or else he woulda worked this last SB - and i could just hear you bitching about that, too!
