LOL, WSJ are clueless if that is what they are reporting. For a *studio* picture exhibs and studios split the box office 50/50 or thereabouts. For an indy flick a distrib like Newmarket has no leverage so even if they have an agreement on what percentage Gibson & Newmarket get, the actual amount exhibs give them is likely to be far less than that.

If DVD sales go through the roof and if the movie plays overseas and sells for a huge amount on television, then I could see Gibson's take solidly into 9 figures, but half a bil is way too high.

I believe you when you say that's what they are reporting, I am just saying that media reports are wrong more often than they are right in one respect or another.

Dr. Drew on Loveline had a great quote about media reports that I repeat often. THink about the last time some media outlet did a story on you or something you know intimately. Did they get it 100% right? Now if they didn't get yours right, what makes you think they are getting everything else right?

Ii totally agre. That took some serious guts. He is going to come out with several more bible stories for the big screen. Mark my words, when everything is said and done in about ten years he will be one of richest men in Hollywood.

the cost of the movie was 30 million with an ad budget for 40 million, with newmarket getting 20% for distribution while gibson is part owner of newmarket. nick douglas i must say you are wrong, with the studio taking 50%, this movie had no studio backing, the studios will not see any monitary gain from this movie. with the box office earnings of 294 million right now gibson is up about 184 million as of right now, will he earn 500 million by the end nobody knows but being a betting man i would say he will.

"The Passion of Christ" - A movie ALL Christians should see, in my opinion.

Hats off to Mel for scooping that cash for the second best fantasy movie released within the past year - of course, the genre the movie falls into all depends on your point of view

blue, you're correct. However, faith does not equal truth, hence your equation does not apply.
