I am thinking about getting an afghan hound or a scottish terrier but am pretty much open to any kind of dog.

If you have any advice or would like to recommend a specific breed of dog, Im open to susggestions.

I have a big backyard so space is not a problem.

Thanks.

I feel your pain SLIM.

But, somehow, this being a gambling forum...

I foresee some comments coming about "live dogs" being the best.

Not to make too light of your situation, but sh!t happens. Best of luck finding the just the right new dog!

My entire family are HUGE dog lovers.

Since you mentioned terriers, I would suggest you do some research on the KERRY BLUE TERRIER.

They are terrific dogs!!

terriers have boundless energy so if you are kool with that the Kudos...

Personally I have two Mutts Lab/Husky Shepperd/Lab.

Females are often softer than males & can be more protective...I find, all in all, they make better Pets.

I once owned a GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER...beautiful dogs, just beautiful...But have more energy than you can imagine.

Look to your Local SPCA if you can, I also advise try to get a puppy between 6-8 weeks old...if you pick up a puppy at 3 months or older it will be tough to break bad habits...

Good luck...If there is one thing I can count on it is my dog's giving me love...they make me smile at least once a day.

Wil, Why dont you come in here & tell this guy that this belongs on a PET website not the RX...

Slim,

I suggest a Labrador. They are the greatest. I have a full bred Yellow Lab and I love her. She is actually 2.5 weeks pregnant, so if you wanna wait another 6 weeks or so, you can have your pick. Something to think about.

Hey SS,

Nobody but you seems offended by this topic.

Didn't your service have any plays on the recent Westminister Dog Show?

I thought I got pretty good odds on a prop.

"Will ANY dog try to hump the judge's leg?"

Alas, I lost the play.

Dogs are cool...

No matter what mood you are in bad, good, pissed at going 0-5, they are always there for you. I lost my dog of 15 years a little over a year ago and I am still not over it. I would give up everything for 15 more with him. Yorkshire terriors are cool but are full of energy and yap all the time.

My bad SS,

I was in too big a rush to even notice your other very helpful post.

Just giving you a little needle about dog show bets.

Now that I think about it, I guess we would all bet the dog shows if we thought we could make money.

Gotta give some love for the Beagle...

Great pets, good natured, they eat too much, but we all do.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. We have 2 dogs (we had one die 2 years ago) they are the greatest.
We have a Yorkie and a Maltese( They dont shed). I like smaller dogs but you really can't go wrong no matter what dog you get.
Nothing better than little dogs, they grow up to be little dogs. Little kids grow up to be disrespectful little bastids.

You should get a Preso Canario...I have one and it is the best dog I have ever had. Easy to maintain and very loyal. What is a Dogo Canario?
The Dogo Canario is a molossoid dog native to the Canary Islands. These powerful dogs resulted from crossings of native perros de presa or presa de la tierra and dogs, especially mastiffs and bulldogs, brought to the islands by the British settlers. Also included into the original foundation of the dogs is the Bardino Majorero, a shepherding dog native to the island of Fuerteventura. It has always been used as a cattle dog and guardian.

Labradors, yes thats another dog that I like, specially the chocolate ones, man those things look great. From what Ive heard/read they're pretty smart too which is always a plus when it comes to dogs. Them and perhaps a retriever of some sort....
