I for one find the all so TYPICAL bracket contests as very boring.

You know the ones. The ones where you fill in your ENTIRE bracket before the tournament starts.

Every office and bar in the country seems to run this type of bracket contest for the NCAA tournament.

Granted, they are very popular, not disputing that. I guess the major draw being they are easy to create.

I guess you would not consider myself(or a large majority of posters on this forum) your TYPICAL gambler. I would think that most of you find these boring also when there are so MANY other ways to bet on these games besides these silly bracket contests.

Not only is just betting the games individually so much better, but there are also so many other better contests than your TYPICAL bracket contest.

That is one thing I really trully miss about Vegas and that is when you go to a bar the majority of people that are betting have LEGETIABLE sorts of bets on the games. You can here the guy next to you say he layed -7.5 on St Joes for a nickel or I need Depaul for my 3-teamer.........compared to say someplace like down here in Tampa when the patron next to me utters out, "Gee, I hope St. Joes wins, I have them to go all the way in my bracket.

Anyway, would love to hear some of your thoughts on this subject.

WIN MONEY TODAY IN THE TOURNAMENT GANG!!!.......and if not there, at the track to tough to tame, Darlington.

Brackets only cost lunch money. If I took my friends for some serious coin, I'd probably regret it later on. IMO it's a lot more difficult to pick an entire bracket than individual games. You need a lot of skill and definitely a lot of luck.

I agree Fish - with all the free bracket contests out there, I couldn't even get up the enthusiasm to enter a single one. The biggest problem with the majority of these contests is that it usually just comes down to whoever picks the correct champion. Early round games are mostly irrelevant - it only matters how your pick for overall champion fares. Mostly a crapshoot with little handicapping knowledge needed. In a word - boring.

Speaking of words - how exactly do I go about placing a bet that is "legitiable"??

I absolutely agree.

When I'm at my day job on Monday, I'm going to have to hear about the buffoon who read how #12 seeds always seem to win, or the goof who remembered I said Cincinnati will get to the Final Four.

I want to spit in their face and yell I had Nevada plus 9, or I played Cinc Over 136 on Sunday, but they're so stupid.

I just prefer to handicap alone and never let on if I'm winning or losing.

Bracket contests are for the masses who live for their Super Bowl block pools.

FWIW - The best looking team I have seen so far is UCONN. They should cruise into the Final Four where they look like they will tangle with Duke in the Semi's. The other Semi could easily be Ok. St.- Kentucky. Final UCONN-Ok.St. Winner UCONN.

If Okie St. wins it all, I may actually win one of these bracket contests.

Not holding my breath however.

Fishhead...I agree for the most part with your original comments...but I'm also with you on Oklahoma St. A ton of people in my office pool (especially those battling me for the lead) have Pitt going to the Final Four, so I nearly took the lead Sunday afternoon when it looked like Wisconsin would take them down. Now I'm in a must-win situation with Oklahoma St.

How about them Cowboys...

I agree that they are boring, but I do them every year anyway.

Each Monday after the opening weekend I always have to hear about how the receptionist/salesperson/janitor, who doesn't even watch basketball, is beating me (the "gambling expert") in the pool.

I want to tell them that NCAA pools are to gambling what Red Lobster is to seafood places, but there's no point. I just let them have the grins and move on.
