Down by 3 at the end of the 3rd, The Pacers held Portland to eight 4th. points to win their 50th. game of the year. Does this team have any shot to win the whole thing?

I know I am a homer, but these guys can play. Just wait until the playoffs when Reggie really starts to play. These guys are doing things even the Bird coached Pacers could not do. I think they have a shot.

Uh, no. Nice team, will be better competitors than the Nets if they get to the Finals, but still a wide gulf between them and the top 4 teams of the West this year. Only chance would be something like Spurs win the West, but Duncan gets hurt by a freak accident and can't play in the Finals.

I am sorry for using the "R" word - and NOTHING EL

NO

the pacers play in the WNBA - not the NBA. put the pacers (or any other wnba team) in the wets and they don't win 50 all season and the best they could hope to finish is 5th overall - behind the wolves, kings, lakers and spurs.

EVERY YEAR for the past few years we go thru this ridiculous discussion over whether the East has a chance to win the title - and every year we see the west mop the floor with the (l)eastern conf chump. see no reason this season will be any different. pacers might win 2 games in the finals - and for the wnba champ that should be considered the same as winning it all - but the (l)eastern conf chump has NO PRAYER of winning the nba title. NONE! for those who will tell me i am wrong and the east has a chance - come back in late june - and apologize to me when i am proven right - once again!

everyone - repeat after me

eastern conf basketball - SUCKS!

Even if they beat NJ or Det (which i agree with Slim, they won't)they have no chance with the West. I mean, do you really see them beating Sac, Min, SA, the Lakers or even Dallas???

theyll get waxed. the pacers would have zip mismatches to exploit against any of the teams that could make the finals in the west.

im exhausted from rooting for these pacers. the team that should have beat the bulls and the team that should have won the finals. miller and co have had numerous opportunitys to win a title for that franchise.

No big deal, just a little Pacer news.

Artest has excused absence from Pacers practice
By Associated Press, 3/18/2004 18:21

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Indiana Pacers forward Ron Artest missed practice Thursday to deal with a personal matter.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said the absence was excused, and Artest would be in the starting lineup for Friday's home game against Sacramento Kings.

Artest arrived at Conseco Fieldhouse minutes after practice ended and said he had a doctor's appointment for his injured thumb, among other issues.

Artest has been playing with a heavy wrap on his left, non-shooting thumb after having surgery to repair torn ligaments Feb. 19.

''Everything happened today,'' Artest said, without elaborating further.

Artest was benched for the start of a game against New Orleans in February for missing practice while returning from All-Star weekend in Los Angeles.

He also did not start against Memphis in December after he overslept and missed a practice the previous day.
