RIO's Lines for tonight...

1-St. Louis minus 2 1/2 minus .15 over Iowa

2-Lehigh minus 4 minus .15 over Florida A & M

3-Creighton minus 1 1/2 minus .15 over Nebraska

I call this bullcrap but I'd love to hear what others think?

When other Bm's have the choice of either number, it appears to me that RIO is scared to book a bet...

I believe that the FREE HALF point might have some influence in this.

Assuming you are betting more than $500 which eliminates the free half point, the extra juice makes it pretty difficult to play these games at Rio, when you can play Creighton -1.5 -101, and St. Louis -2.5 -105 elsewhere.

I think you missed my point...

Most gamblers here have multiple outs, so when we see a minus 1 and 1 1/2 elsewhere, who in there right mind would lay minus 1 minus $1.15?

RIO is by far and and away one of my favorite books in the entire industry, but I just had to ventillate when they put these type of lines out...

Plus, I'd love to hear what other BM'S or wiseguys or squares have to say about whether this is good boomaking or not...

Months back when Shrink was the owner, he would never DARE speak ill of RIO/Skybook.

Now, he's just another agenda driven poster.

Personally, I agree that Skybook is "tweening" its lines to protect themselves. But what's wrong with that? Hell, they give you a free 1/2 pt. And I am sure Shrink well knows what that is worth. That is why he is bitchin, because that extra 5 cents takes away some of the value when he is looking to bet that way.

To me, it just shows responsible bookmaking.

The bookmakers at rio/sky/iis are a joke. They move lines on air and have no balls whatsoever. Fishead is right. The real reason they move the juice is because they have a few guys that have done well at skybook with the free half point.

If this outfit was doing so well they wouldn't have to give the shop away with bonuses and junk every week.

Yes, it is strong bookmaking.

If two grandmasters of perfect ability competed and 1 got to set the lines, and 1 got to bet them, what would happen?

1. At all lines -110, free 1/2 point promo the betting grandmaster would crush the line setting grandmaster.

2. At all lines -110 or -115, free 1/2 point promo, it would be a real war as to whether the betting grandmaster would win.

It's still a 20 cent line in total. What's next? We are going to be critical of Pinny for dealing -108/-102 instead of -105/-105 on all games? Let's be serious. If you deal reduced vig or free 1/2 points, you need to be able to set your lines tighter if you want to survive at any kind of higher limit bets.

IMO, it's responsible bookmaking. I don't know the particulars on those lines you mentioned, but they may be looking to keep from getting simultaneously middled/sided at another book. Your opinion is that they appear to be scared - mine is they appear to be smart.
