of course it's true, and it's true for every other casino game. If there were any "good" systems everyone would be using them and the casinos would outlaw them

There is no "winning system" only degrees of losing

Only casino game system that works that I know of is card counting, and look how the casinos feel about that one

true. i have this game to thank for most of my gambling losses back in the day when i went to vegas 3 times/year.

funny story, my first time in vegas i really wanted to play craps but i didn't know how it worked. so, i watched for a while but still couldn't totally catch on. so, i finally decided to step in when a spot opened up.

luckily, the spot was right next to the stick man who was a nice guy. i told him "i don't know what the hell i'm doing...you help me out and i'll take care of you". he helped me understand the pass line and odds bets and to stay away from the bad bets (hard ways, etc).

anyway, i won like $350 in like 15 minutes. i leaned over and said to him, "man, this is too easy. what's the key to winning in this game". i'll never forget his response - "you're up a few hundred right? here's what you do...as soon as this guy's roll is done, you take your chips over to the cashier, walk out of here and never play again".

man, i wish i had listened to him. the only table game you can beat is blackjack and you have to be rainman to do that. i'll stick to sports thank you.

Craps is unbeatable in the long run. However there are playing methods that can give a player a chance to win sometime, or at least lose slowly as possible. Betting all the different prop bets is instant financial suicide. Good craps players know the way to play so I won't go into a long 'how to play" discussion here.

frank scoblete's book .."beat the crap out of casinos"

is an informative book and the system on "betting the come" is a good one...

The only two ways to beat craps are

1. Cheat ( shoot the shot, etc)
2. Play one roll a day (Passline or come for the max) in a riverboat situation that has a last roll of the night as opposed to last shooter

No others that I know of

2 ways of playing craps...playing to win or playing to gamble.

gamble-to bet on an uncertain outcome.

The house probablity on all games including sports are geared to the houses chances not yours...This is certain and unreffutable...they are not gambling.

I drive 2 hours to plays craps for anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours.I've lost once in the last say 15 times I've played.
My buddy ask me "you drive all the way to Foxwoods to make a $100?...Christ it ain't worth it, why bother?"
I tell him I am a regenerate gambler,not a degenerate gambler.
See, to him and many guys like him going down to Foxwoods and spending 8 hours and losing $1000 or so,would be considerd "Worth it"

General,

I'm surprised at you! I thought you've known this ever since you first started to gamble! Where do you think the expression "it's a crapshoot" came from!? Geez man, sometimes I really wonder

Oh so very true!! Watching the payoffs is critical if you are covering very much of the board (come bets and odds). This is critical if you hope to even have a chance.

I have encountered a situation or two where the payouts seemed to be more favourable after a couple of well-placed two-way "11" wagers for $5 or $10 wagers.

In the end, however, you must watch closely on every roll to insure you are paid correctly. The game is, of course, extremely fast-psced and it is critical to stay on top of your positions.

Agree DPO, Scoblete's book is definitely one of the best few ever written on Craps..can't say I agree with him on his sound belief in his system as way to make a living though.

Much like all table games, Craps is only beatable in spurts, I tend to ride the DP/DC looking at the table(like a poker game), picking spots to go versus certain people at the table.

Is it just me, but it seems when someone has one die go off the table after at least 5 rolls, 7-out is generally coming in next two rolls?

It's as predictable as when the guy chasing 0 or 00 at the Wheel finally goes broke(or needs to visit ATM), that Zippo or Double-Trouble hit in next five spins..LOL

Willie Nelson can roll eh Wil?

i play a don't system that gets me pretty good comps. i rarely lose much, and the casinos rate me high when my exposure really isn't that great.

I noticed a previous post by you with a Willie reference.

Wil, have you ever worked in a office on Polaris or Maryland Parkway?

Fanniemae, I'm inclined to agree with you.

i made so much money playing craps in the early 90's that i quit my job at a big six accounting firm and went to live in las vegas. the only thing i did special was wait for the shooter to repeat a number before jumping in on the pass and come line with full odds. i usually had 4 numbers working and i had wins for the history books. unfortunately that isnt the end of the story. i dont remember exactly when but things changed in a heartbeat. i went from a 2 bedroom condo, dating "hotties" working at the golden nugget, to a dive on 7th and fremont where hopefully a whore would feel pity on me.

i dont play craps anymore as i still remember the cocksucker at the el cortez pumping his fist when 7 out was called and my last 2 grand was scooped up.

i still go to vegas but only for sports now and to hang out at my favorite bar and watch the ticker go by.

i dont live that far away from foxwoods and when my girl wants to go, i take her. but i sit in the race book or the video poker area and think what might have been.

people that can play craps for entertainment, i truly envy; it looks like it could be fun

people that play craps as a living; i would have to call a fool.

Wil, you work and live in the isles currently?

I had the possibility to go with a young guy setting up his own shop a decade ago, and didn't..wish I would've.

Caesar, your story reminds me of an effervescent young guy named Steve, that made & blew a nice fortune during the early nineties at sports and craps in LV, but he was an action-junkie,thus the eventual freefall..then blew town last I heard.

Winning too big or too quick early can spoil some young bettors into thinking it's easy or that it can be done anytime, & can actually set them back in their gambler's education, you're not the first nor the only..fret not!

In truth, it's a grind, true career-making fat runs tend to come in biblical-like seventh waves, and can in times of long steady grinds only come around about every seven years.

The Computer's NCAA Football plays of '83-'85, the NBA expansion season of '89-'90 where Billy Baxter destroyed the card every night , or Chinaman runs like the mid-nineties are times to make hay, they don't happen every year..or at least the plays availability isn't as easily attained by same channels each & every year

.

Whether playing one's own plays or being a follower, it seems that every year plays out differently..a whole new monster.

My uncle always told me don't bet horses, unless you personally know at least one of the owner/trainer/jockey/or horse personally.

My dad always told me dice were for degenerates in the alley.

Watching it all up close for a while on CCTV, told me they were right!
