The Steelers will bring in free agent running back Duce Staley for a visit Sunday as they look to get their trademark running game going again after it finished next-to-last in the league last season.

ALSO

Free-agent linebacker Marcus Washington, who had 16 sacks the last three seasons for Indianapolis, wrapped up a two-day visit Thursday in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are looking to upgrade a defense -- and a pass rush -- that has slipped precipitously since leading the league in 2001.

The Steelers also are interested in bringing back one of their former linebackers, the Eagles' Carlos Emmmons

ALSO

The Steelers also are seeking to replace longtime starting cornerback Dewayne Washington, who was released last week. They don't plan to bring in any free agents Friday, but do plan to meet next week with Fernando Bryant of Jacksonville, Fred Thomas of New Orleans, Reggie Howard of Carolina and David Barrett of Arizona.

His agent, Leigh Steinberg, was quoted in the Tampa papers as saying that Staley was enamored with Gruden and may cancel his visit to Pittsburgh if the Bucs make him a decent offer.

Dante.......He has been leaning heavily toward Tampa. I have mixed feelings on it. I originally hoped that we wouldnt sign him, thinking it was unecessary, but that was before we lost Thomas Jones to Chicago. Thomas Jones was the runner, Michael Pittman is uncoverable out of the backfield, and with Alstott back next year, he's both in one. But now, Id much rather have Staley than Charlie Garner who's older, and Garrison Hearst is almost done also.....
