From a farm in Viking, Alberta they came and took the NHL by storm! The first Sutter Brother to ascend to the NHL was Brian, who debuted with the St. Louis Blues in the 1976/1977 season. Three seasons later, brothers Darryl and Duane made their debuts with the Chicago Black Hawks and New York Islanders, respectively. During the 1980/1981 season, brother number 4, Brent, took to the ice with the New York Islanders. The fifth and sixth Sutter brothers, twins Rich and Ron, made their debut in 1982/1983 with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, respectively. For 5 seasons, all six Sutter brothers played in the National Hockey League.

The Sutter Brothers have each played their final NHL season: Darryl 1986/1987, Brian 1987/1988, Duane 1989/1990, Rich 1994/1995, Brent 1997/1998, and Ron 2000/2001. The 2000/2001 season marked the 25th consecutive year that a Sutter brother played in the NHL. The Sutter Brothers collectively played in 4994 NHL regular season games (plus 603 playoff games) with 1320 goals, 1615 assists, and 7224 penalty minutes. Meanwhile, Sutter Brothers Darryl, Brian, and Duane have each made their mark as head coaches in the NHL, combining to coach 1562 NHL regular season games through 2001/2002. Darryl is currently the head coach of the Calgary Flames, Brian is the Head Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Duane was formerly the Head Coach of the Florida Panthers. Another Sutter Brother? A seventh Sutter brother, Gary, never played in the NHL. More Sutters? In 1998, the first son of a Sutter Brother, Brian's son Shaun, was drafted by the NHL's Calgary Flames.

The proud parents of the Sutter Brothers are Grace and Louis Sutter. They raised their seven sons in a tiny 800-square-foot, 4-bedroom house on a 1400-acre farm in Viking, Alberta. In the mid-1980's, the Brothers formed the Sutter Foundation to raise money for non-profit charity organizations.
