Why is it that so many sports bettors live in eternal regret? We all operate in a results-based environment, so what is the reasoning for so many spending the time in the "what-if" realm?

Good points made by Wild Bill. Personally most of my regrets come from bets I did not make because I lost the number I wanted. An example would be a total in the NBA where I like under 190, but can only find 189 by the time I get ready to actually bet. Natruallly I pass, and it seems like these games always get there, which of course is not really the case.. Most likely I will not dwell on the games where I saved myself money by not using the bad number, and regret not playing the games that won. Thanks Bill for the insight.
