(Sports Network) - The Southeast Division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning seek
their fifth consecutive victory tonight when they visit the slumping Colorado
Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.
Tampa, which is 8-0-1-2 in its last 11 games overall, holds a lead of 19
points over second-place Florida in the Southeast race. The Lightning are just
two points behind Ottawa and Philadelphia for the Eastern Conference lead.
On Saturday, Cory Stillman scored the game-winning tally with 3:29 left to
lift the Lightning to a 4-2 win over visiting Washington. Fredrik Modin
tallied twice, once off an assist by Stillman, as the Lightning moved to
14-1-1-2 in their last 18 tries.
Nikolai Khabibulin turned aside 21 shots for the win, while Martin St. Louis
tallied an empty-net goal in the closing seconds. St. Louis has notched a
point in 11 straight games (7g, 13a).
Tampa Bay, which has won three of its last five on the road, will visit
Chicago on Wednesday.
Colorado, meanwhile, is a mere 1-4-1-1 in its last seven tilts. On Saturday
the Avs dropped a 5-4 overtime decision in Columbus. Jaroslav Spacek scored a
power-play goal with 1:36 remaining in OT to lift the Blue Jackets.
Alex Tanguay had a goal and three assists and Milan Hejduk added a goal and
two assists for the Avalanche, who are winless in their last three games
(0-1-1-1). Joe Sakic had a score and a helper, and John-Michael Liles tallied
for Colorado.
Rookie Philippe Sauve was peppered with 44 shots and stopped 39 of them in the
loss.
The Avalanche, with 82 points, are one ahead of second-place Vancouver in the
Northwest Division. They trail Detroit by three points in the overall Western
Conference chase.
On the injury front, center Peter Forsberg missed his sixth consecutive game
