Heard from raiders you are the guys who would know - I'm looking for a good, current site that reviews and has news on poker sites. I understand PartyPoker is highly thought-of, and once I get around to it I'll probably start playing somewhere, but I'd like to know if there is a site where the cognoscenti hang out - not that I am one with regards to playing online poker, simply that I'd like to know if they do exchange info somewhere, playing-wise, story-wise or site-wise. Thanks

Sorry Jazz...was out all day looking for a home, moving sucks.

As far as a poker review site, I do not know of any worth mentioning. Most are run by affiliates who are of questionable character at best.

Personally, if I were to suggest a site to a friend I would go with:

Pokerstars
Party Poker/Empire Poker
WSEX (just because of the sportsbook link)
Paradise Poker
Ultimate Bet

With the exception of WSEX, the others have great games that always run. They are all rock solid and will pay.

There are so many sites out there, my view is to go with the big players and you will do fine. If you are into bonus whoring or anything like that, I can't really help since the sites I mentioned above have bonuses but are not nearly as good as those offered by the smaller players.

pokerpulse.com shows site traffic and I say go to where everyone else plays then choose a site where you feel comfortable.

Just an FYI, the above sites offer play money tables so you do not have to deposit to get a feel for the sites.

BTW, the "cognoscenti" (and I use this loosely)hang out at two places that I know of and exchange stories/strategies.

twoplustwo.com - great poker strategy in the forums and generally good information. Heavily moderated and run by two famous poker authors.

rec.gambling.poker aka RGP - newgroup accessible via google groups, outlook or any other newsgroup reader. Once was a great site now it is crap but you can find a few gems there including strategy discussion by a few pros who come in and talk about some of the decisions they made during various broadcasts. Unfortunately, it is unmoderated so the undesirables have driven away a few of the pros and better posters.

I'm no expert but poker is my latest passion (until I buy my new set of golf irons paid for by some of the fine folks at Party Poker and Pinny) and I'm willing to share the information I have. Good luck.

Jazz, you may want to look at thisPokerlistings.com place, it has it all and no banner's. Found this place a while ago, there's a wealth of information and forums.
