Maybe I misheard what Barnett said, but I could swear I just heard him rationalizing abusing this girl because she wasn't a good kicker. Sounds like he let it happen so that she'd decide to leave. I've always figured Barnett was scum. What's the point of talking about her kicking ability now? It's ireelevant. It doesn't excuse any kind of abuse or harrassment.

"Colorado football coach Gary Barnett has been placed on administrative leave with pay following remarks he made about ex-kicker Katie Hnida that were deemed "unacceptable" by school president Elizabeth Hoffman."

I think Colorado is playing politics here. They're placing Barnett on leave because of his remarks about Katie Hnida? He said she was a terrible kicker. Guess what, she WAS a terrible kicker! Whether or not she was raped has nothing to do with her kicking ability.

Obviously, Barnett's timing and tact leave much to be desired. But don't place him on leave because of his comments regarding Hnida. Place him on leave for all the OTHER stuff that happened @ Colorado. The sexual assaults, the parties, the strippers, the alcohol, etc.

But Colorado doesn't want to do that, because that would make Barnett (and the university) appear guilty of the allegations. So instead they're gonna use this weak excuse about "unacceptable" comments.

After reviewing his comments further, I do not see any harm. Over-reaction, Scapegoat, although he is probably not running a clean program by any means.

General, I disagree. He talked about "earning respect" and then said "she was a girl...and not only was she a girl, she was a terrible kicker." To me, he was basically saying that if she was harrassed she had it coming, which is BS. Plus, looka t the way he said that.."she was a girl, and not only a girl..." as if to say because she was a girl was entitled to less respect. This would have been bad in enough at any time, but in the context of the current investigation it's a totally inappropriate statement because it has NOTHING to do with with whether the charges are true and it is no excuse if the charges are true. Barnett should have known better...what do they say...if you don't have anything nice to say...

Barnett at Northwestern had a lot of class AND ran a great, clean program.

I'm shocked at his troubles in Colorado. I have to feel his comments were taken out of context. Sounds to me like he was forced to give the placekicker a fair chance to make the team, and he resented it since she was not qualified to be there. And this resentment has completely clouded his judgement. Scary the way he came ac****. What a rise and fall.

Look for him to return to Northwestern. The man is loved there.

what he said was CLASSLESS, as in NO CLASS.

He didn`t need to rip her for being a bad kicker when it had zero to do with the situation.

Attack the person if you can`t attack the message.

The Steve Fezzik opinion on anything related to NCAA football should be ignored.
Just look at his 42% ATS season over at lvasports.com for evidence of his knowledge.
Even a coin would be embarassed to pick at 42%.

The above is an example, I am attacking Fezzik with something totally irellevent to the issue even if it is true

When I heard the comments, I swear I got the feeling that he wanted to be fired. Seriously, I think he wants the buyout and a vacation.

Good points, I stand corrected.

I LOVE Barnett for what he did for the NWU program. I am amazed he could bring the Purple to Pasadena. A remarkable achievement.

In the future, is someone wants to trash my football handicapping record, can they include not only my select 42% 2003 college football, but also my 54% in 2001-2002 college football, AND my 57% 2001-2003 NFL?

As a huge Colorado fan, it pains me to think what may lay ahead for this program. They have never had many choir boys in the program. I actually started rooting for Colorado in the mid to late 80's because the black QB, Sal Aunese, got the Bill Mc Cartney's daughter pregnant. The national championship team had 8 of its 11 offensive starters as LA gang members. Rick Neuheisel also never met a rule he didn't break. Barnett has no control over these guys. He's also a bad football coach. How many years can Sonny Lubick outcoach him? This was the first year they won their opening game since Barnett has been there. He might have pulled off a miracle at Northwestern but he's driving CU into the ground. Their recruiting has been terrible and any star recruits he has gotten are now elsewhere (Houston, Ochs). Get rid of the guy for good now before its too late if that time hasn't already come.
